Granted, I don't give a shit about Freud or psychology, and I think Nietzsche just took Schopenhauer as an early influence but did everything better than Schopenhauer, but he does make some good ethical points in favor of philosophical pessimism. He's among the best for that. His arguments do rely a lot on the assumptions he makes in his metaphysics, but his observation that the human race has some blind drive to live is just right.
Really, Schopenhauer is more an inspiration than anything else. I like him, and I think he's a good starting place for people who have interests in philosophy that are relevant to what he talks about, but I don't think anyone really takes his bloated metaphysics seriously.
