The Algerian Civil War started the rupture between them, and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution finalized it. Camus argued that the Left's infatuation with revolutionary violence was only creating more atrocities and worse hierarchies, while Sartre held that appeals to peace were inherently reactionary by trying to quell uprisings by the people.
