Thoughts on Charleston?

I think it's right to get rid of the flag from the state houses and such. It's basically like the nazi flag. Having that up is basically poking black people in the eye think, like a giant 'fuck you' to every black man in that state.

But don't take my word for it! Even George Bush agrees

There are a pretty large group that would disagree with you.

I won't get into all it stands for vise all it is perceived as.

But long story short the saying goes "those who forget their history are bound to repeat it"

And imo by "banning" it, you are only "romantisising" the flag and the history and when that happens. It really takes away from having real conversation about it and puts it on a one track story despite said story being highly debated across the country. I know you probably don't know this but a large majority of people in the south are taught the "War between the states" not the "civil war".

Are people really going to forget the history of the Civil War? Probably, but I would say only in several hundred years when its no longer relevant and even then it will probably still be taught in one or way or another in some history class. It was a pretty momentous event after all.

And they're not really 'banning' it. It's only being removed from public places. Pretty sure you can still fly it there, just like how there was that Nazi rally in queens or somewhere in new york once in a really jewish neighbourhood. I think that this will take time to work through but that in the end it's time to make new history

Yes and no. As it stands right now, most official government buildings will fly the standard Stars and Stripes as well as the official state flag. The Confederate flag is political to some, and not to others. You'd have to be straight dumb to say it doesn't represent a specific side on a specific issue to some people. And for that reason I think it should be off of official government buildings. They're not living in the Confederate States of America right now. If it's a part of the city's heritage, they can fly it on places that aren't government property. Same way they can't technically put up Christmas trees or Nativity scenes or whatever. Unless the government is actively trying to recreate the Confederacy, there's no reason they should be officially flying its flag.
