This is a general board for both Washington, Oregon, and nearby areas. (Vancouver, SOME of northern california, whatever.)

The rules are pretty similar to most boards. Try not to be a dick, and don't shitpost too badly. Spoiler NSFW.

I don't expect this board to be very active, but I didn't want to shit up other boards trying to talk to fellow locals. I'd like things to stay vaguely video game related, local LAN scene, whatever, but talking about food carts, local restaurants, favorite places to go is great too.

People with questions about the PNW are welcome to, but for the most part, this board is for residents to talk with eachother.

We'll see how this goes!

Don't forget to check out similar boards for other regions, like >>>/midwest/ !

I don't know of too many places in Seattle that are good for grub, as I don't get up there a lot. However, I can recommend a few places to get going. So, please, if you know any more, contribute! I really want this board to get moving.

Luna Park Cafe is a simple straightforward burger joint, sort of a 50s diner feel. Alongside such offerings as an Elvis burger (which I hear good things about) they also have the best French Dip I've ever had, and I highly recommend it. It's pretty much the main thing I head up to seattle for when I have an excuse to go.

While I think Beecher's is pretty well known for it's cheese / mac and cheese etc down in Pike's place, I'd highly recommend (if you haven't already) grabbing a bite at Piroshky Piroshky, specifically, go for the salmon / cheese / onion piroshky that they offer, because it's fucking delicious and you cannot go wrong.

If you're ever out in Maple Valley, GO TO TERIFRESH. It's fucking amazing; huge portions, friendly staff, reasonable prices, DELICIOUS food. Their honey garlic chicken is seriously the best I've ever had.

Hit up Belltown Pizza on 1st for huge slices of damn good pizza, and a few pints of great beer.

Zeek's is in Belltown across from the 5 Point. So far, I would say that they make the best pizza in the city.

If you want fast food sushi, the Blue C is fine, but really it is not much cheaper that getting better sushi at a place like Hana on Broadway. They have a large sake selection which I think goes much better with the meal than beer.

They also have another store a couple blocks away called Home Video where they run Magic, D&D, and other tourneys weekly.

Now that people are starting to post here, I was thinking of doing a small meetup down in Portland. Possibly at Ground Kontrol or another Arcade, just to keep it vidya related. Ground Kontrol isn't my favorite spot in town, but it is worth seeing if you haven't before and it's got something for everyone. Don't mind going if I'm with a group of people.

If a meetup were to go successfully, I'd be very much so down for planning a local LAN party in addition.

I don't have any set time or date for this, so if you're interested, try to give me an idea of what works best for you, and anything else you'd like to do in addition (if we should all go hit up food carts or something.)

 No.32

Sounds like a load of fun and I'd love to, but Portland is a quite a drive for me. If you get a solid date and time pinned down I may be able to make it if it's any day between Thursday and Saturday, but no promises.

I think it might be a bit early for a meet-up. I'm pretty sure there's no more than 6 or 7 unique posters here, and I doubt more than 4 or 5 would be able to come.

If you want to try you should go for it though, but I just don't think that many people would show up.

Can't speak for washington and Seattle, but up in Portland there's only two options that I know of.

GNWLan is up in Vancouver, right on the river near Portland. From my understanding, the staff is OK but the guy who runs the whole thing is kind of lame. I've been, it's a solid LAN, nothing special and medium tier attendance. I'd imagine it's a cheap hotel, but that's about it. Easy access to the rest of the city.

I haven't been to PDXLan at all (http://www.pdxlan.net/home/)

I would, however, be down to organize a small event on this board. I'm not sure I have the resources to host it, but it's a possibility, and I'd be willing to talk to other anons about setting that up.

I just checked out a "gaming cafe" in Seattle and man did it blow my mind.
$4/hr and $20 for a month pass. I'm sure we could book an event there and make sure all the computers were loaded with everything we need.

There were a lot of computers too.

Exactly! I hadnt seen one in forever. Apparently this one just opened, and the guys were pretty cool so I'm looking forward to supporting them.

All of them looked pretty great. Not too showy but not too standard.
They said they had a computer built by the owner that had 2 titans in it. But some Korean was playing assfaggots so I couldn't really see it in action.

That's pretty cool man. There was a place like that out in the midwest I used to go to. I hope it sticks around, we need more of these.

I hate to start *another* food related thread, but what's everyone's favorite foodcarts or pod? They're quite a bit different than "THIS IS THE BEST X IN TOWN" since I love a lot of carts that do similar things.

Starting the thread off with the Hawthorne food cart pod, I knoww, It's super well known but not everyone is aware of it, and it's worth checking out. I'm surprised at how many newcomers and even original residents in town don't know about it or haven't gone here. Pyro pizza is a pretty slick neopolitan joint, I've never been dissapointed with anything there. Crepes are great, and there's Potato champ which specializes in french fries and poutine. I won't say this is the best poutine I've had in town (that goes to http://www.fryguytruck.com/ so far.) but it is worth trying at least once. Squeaky curds, good gravy, my only issue with them are the fries.

That said, they have a huge selection of sauces and mayos, which is a nice perk.

It's a late night spot for sure, open mostly for the evening. When I'm hungry and looking for a snack to hang out in the summer, or the fall cold, it's just overall a pleasant social place to go with friends. The variety it offers makes it an easy choice just for the fact everyone can get what they want.

I guess I could point out Lardo is across the street, which is okay, but they got overpriced and too big for their britches in my opinion. Still, if you want a decent pork sandwich late at night, that is an option for you.

Roadtrip thread.

In WA, OR, What are your favorite places to drive and go check out?

I'm a big fan of the Gorge, and also sometimes going down to the coast, around Newport. good seafood

The gorge is just great due to INFINITE waterfalls, plus the transition to east oregon is very impressive and lasts a long time before it turns into super dull dry desert.

Sometimes you hear a lot about Seaside, but a much more pleasant place to go to is Newport, especially if you take the route from Corvallis to Newport.

It's a coastal fishing town that's empty most of the year. Evokes a bit of a silent hill feel on the right day with fog and tourism levels. It's a tourist town, just, not as much as Seaside is. Good seafood over at Local Ocean, I haven't checked out much food in that area, there is a slick 50s style diner joint that's worth looking up.

If nothing else, the beaches are *gorgeous* and usually empty. On the coast, you can rent yurts to stay in on the cheap, like, 30-40 a night I think? Good to go there and get a campfire going.

More of a washington destination, if you want a really fucking cool way to get to Seattle from Oregon, try driving up to Bremerton via I-5. When splitting off to Bremerton or Seattle, head west. It's a chill naval shipyard town with some neat shit to see and some nice french fries nearby the ferry dock. Once you get there, for 9-15$ or so (I think) you can drive onto the ferry and make your way to Seattle. The ferrys are fucking awesome and a very fun way to get to seattle. You can go outside on the upper and lower decks or go into the lounge and relax.

It's fun to watch jellyfish go by, get an excellent view, and then when you finally head towards Seattle proper you get a gorgeous vista before docking right in the heart of the city.

I wouldn't recommend driving in seattle to those who aren't very confident in their city driving. The city's roads are designed in the most fucktastic ways, far worse than portland's occasional one-ways and no right turns on burnside.

That said, if you can do it with a friend or yourself, this is a fun way to get up to Seattle and get yourself some Piroshkys.

COFFEE:

Ristretto Roasters (Several locations around town.)
Rock solid lattes, can't go wrong here. They have a few odd options that you don't see often elsewhere like a Con Panna. As well as one of the locations having a steampunk which is a weird siphon.

Heart on Burnside used to be really solid but lately, I've found myself heading there less because they just don't do pourover anymore, and instead opt for Aeropresses which are just kind of shitty and overpriced.

Barista down in the pearl is one of the few places I know in town with an actual Siphon bar. Highly recommend, especially if they have heart beans in the shop.

Good Coffee down on 9th & Salmon has also been pretty good so far

Public Domain downtown is an extremely solid shop that has a full pour-over bar. They only do them before 2-3 PM, though, so bear that in mind when going in there.

As for Japanese food in town. Yuzu used to be really solid in Beaverton. Haven't been there in a while.

Boxer ramen is always a good choice, a great value for 10 dollars. (Pic related) In addition, they have pretty delicious Okonomiyaki tots with a spicy mayo.

I have yet to find a place for good yakisoba.

In addition, good ramen and sushi are found over at Mirakutei. Highly recommend the Genki Ramen, much like the spicy offering at Biwa, it uses ground pork instead of a fatty pork cutlet, mixed with eggs.

I tend to like the cocktails at Biwa the most, but their prices have gone up and they don't have a happy hour, so that's kind of shitty.

With Hamburgers, there's a few options. I've yet to explore every place in town, but there's been some solid choices thus far.

Downtown, you can't really go wrong with Cassidy's, they've got a wonderful Happy hour menu and they're open until 3 AM. They do table-service level food at nuts prices if you get a drink with them. I've heard this is very much so the "industrial bar" in town, the bar other bartenders to go when they get off work. Excellent burgers, pulled pork, and assorted sandwiches here. Menu is fairly seasonal and changes often.

Boogie Burger (pictured) is a pretty solid classic joint that's also open up late over on East burnside. I haven't been myself, but I hear nothing but good from them.

If you're over in the Tualatin area, Dickie Joe's is another local establishment that's been around for a while with a solid reputation. The fry sauce is pretty divine, though I feel perhaps the burgers are a little small, they are delicious.

East Burn is also an excellent choice on East burnside, their menu is very simple but the happy hour prices are super good. The Trinity fries here are a no brainer, with sweet potato fries, russet, and I believe Yukon gold (this is another seasonal item, they just change out what potatos they're using.) topped with some fucking awesome fried onions.
