Hay guys.
I'm new to the board, I main /pone/. However, I am also a Pokémon fan, and used to mess around with Gen 3 hacktools, so I know a bit about how to use them.

I come to you with the idea of taking Pokémon Fire Red, and "purifying" it- making it a perfect remake of Pokémon Red.

No types or Pokémon added in Gen 2 or 3.

No maps or events different than they were in Red.

No modification of stats or movepools.

No Pokémon where they weren't in Red, and all Pokémon in red where they should be.

A perfect recreation of Red, seperated only by improved graphics, bag mechanics, and battle system.

(That and a few more changes, but I'll try to minimize them as much as possible.)

What do you say?

 No.6880

"This isn't "a perfect recreation of Red", just a genwunner's wet dream." is gonna be the comment you'll receive the most. Brace for it.

Let me rephrase that: a NEAR- perfect recreation of Red. I have no way of reverting more than a few differences, including the lack of glitches, the Safari Zone saving feature removal, and the female protagonist. I'm also not going to reproduce oddities in the battle system like reverse Focus Energy and wonky AI.

But I'm going to try as hard as I can for the genwunner's wet dream idea. For example, I'm thinking of attempting to reskin Green, the female protag, as an r63'd Red- because back in Gen 1, there was no female protagonist, and all you could do was imagine that beneath the cap, jacket, and jeans was a chick.

I'll warn you though, I'm no spriter, so I'd need help with THAT one.

 No.6883

Doesn't really sound necessary. If you're that much of a purist, there's nothing stopping you from playing FR/LG with only gen 1 mons and moves. Personally I prefer early access to Mankey or Metal Claw to defeat Brock, and Psychic-types not being overpowered because the only Ghost-types in the region are also Poison, but that's just me.
If you're going through with this anyway however, make sure to remember DUX, MARCEL and ZYNX.

I'm actually a gen 3 guy, having gotten my first taste of Pokémon there (specifically from a copy of Firered, then from Sapphire). My only real interest in Generation One is from a historical standpoint, as that's where the games started. (Which means I may be sneaky and make it a remake of Japanese Red/Green, if I can find reliable data on changes between it and American Red/Blue…)

Oh, and the glitches. The glitches are fucking awesome, and I may include sneaky, glitchlike ways of catching Gen 3 Pokémon, Mew, or recreations of Gen 1 glitchmon, as a homage to them. (Not Gen 2 Pokémon, because they're kinda meh in my eyes.)

That being said, I am making this for three reasons:
>A random idea
>It'd put the Gen 3 hacking skills I learned for no other reason to use
>There's a target audience:Genwunners.

Nice rephrasing. And you're talking about interesting ideas. Here are my two cents about it :

>Safari Zone saving feature removal

You can still include nods to the glitches related to it, like the Safari Zone pokes being catchable on the east coast of Cinnabar Island, in addition to using the fossil sprites of fossil Kabutops for Missingno.
>female protagonist
It was planned to have one on Red and Green, see the artworks about it. There might be sprites done about her, just find and use them.
>oddities in the battle system
Nearly impossible unless heavily dedicated, but you can make changes to the moveset and the TMs, to fit better Gen 1.
>Mew glitch
Just give the opportunity to meet a wild Mew the first time you reach the most known place to get it, on the switch from Lavender to Route 8. Bonus points if you manage to replicate how the glitch happens visually
>changes between Japanese Red/Green and American Red/Blue
Google it. Sites like Gamefaqs and Serebii might have something like that. Avoid Bulbapedo like the plague it is, though.

What's wrong with Bulbapedia? I know they're somewhat wikitarded over new shit, though.
I'm an "avoid Serebitch" guy XD

Its admin and some mods are open pedos, who steal content from everywhere and who cause the loss of leakers.

>perfect recreation of Red
>seperated only by improved graphics, bag mechanics, and battle system

Curious idea but your boundary for purity seems arbitrary.

I'm gonna stop ya right there.
The only context in which one is to put those letters in that order here is when discussing Pokémon XD: Gale Of Darkness, and I'd advice against doing so in the future for any other reason. Not because emoticons are hated here or make you look immature, but because this is an imageboard, where feelings should be emoted through reaction images. Also because it risks derailing threads (QED) by people who'll give you essentially the same message but in a far less friendly tone.
Sage for offtopic.

>Safari Zone, Missingno., and Mew Glitch
I'm thinking of putting the glitches in as NPCs, like a Legendary Bird style Mew on the bridge. Also, seeing as the hacktools I have are limited to game data and not actual game mechanics, I'd be pretty limited on recreating the actual Mew glitch.

>Female protag

Oh, yeah… yeah, might not bother then.

…And here I was using Bulbapedia as my main resource. Dammit.

>No Pokémon where they weren't in Red, and all Pokémon in red where they should be.

So you're gonna fight trainers who have Meowth, Bellsprout, Sandshrew, Vulpix and Magmar with absolutely no means to get them yourself? Why would you ever want that?

 No.6904

>>6899
Hmm, right, didn't think of that one…

Perhaps making it one of those "you can catch all Pokemon from both Red and Blue" things…

Or perhaps a glitchy-looking place that is accessible from Safari Zone (Glitch City) would allow you to catch those pokemon…

Alternatively you could have some sort of 'switch' somewhere that changes the world between red and blue versions. This is probably the only way you could keep the encounter rates accurate.

Where to place it and when you could activate it may be an issue; In Bill's house or at Silph Co, during the main game or in the post game…

 No.6915

>>6914
I'd say Bill's House is the best idea, especially if you include the "Bill's Garden" rumor, complete with grass where you only meet Eevees and starters. But unlocking it at the post game seems like the best idea to me, considering how this garden usually has the requirement of ending the League X times.

 No.6916

>>6914
Unfortunately, that's pretty much impossible.

In 3rd Gen games, wild pokemon data is controlled by a special part of map data. It can't be controlled by player scripts, which is what would be needed to code such a switch.

(Player scripts control pretty much everything that you can interact with in the overworld, including NPCs, PCs, pokeball item puick ups, hidden item pick ups, signs, ect)

However, I COULD implement a teleporter in Bill's house activated by breating the Elite Four. Said teleporter would bring you to a special area probably stolen from a modified area of Sevii Islands (I'm thinking Pattern Bush as it's already closed off) that contains Blue Version only Pokémon.

Said area would be called Bill's Garden.

I'll get to work with reprogramming 151 pokemon to use the Gen 1 movesets later today.

Oh, and might as well, I'm putting on a name. Call me "Hackerfag".

 No.7058

>>6918
Hm, it's a little sad that mons like Bellsprout won't be usable until the postgame don't you think?

How do you feel about say modifying some of the additional (and honestly unnecessary) in-game trades to allow the use of some Blue version mons?

 No.7059

Oh yeah - how are you going to handle trade only evolutions?

This is something that most romhackers get around by changing their evo requirements to either friendship or level up, but you want the games to be more accurate to the original.

 No.7369

>>6879
Retardedly easy, also completely pointless.
You inspire me to finish my hack because you're idea is so shit that someone needs to balance it out.
