So I get WHY the Pokemon anime is the way it is. (Basic, shitty, lacking fully evolved Pokemon)
What I dont understand is why they dont also have decent offshoots. I want to watch Pokemon duke it out and have the show not assume it's my first episode like in the Mega evolution special or Pokemon Origins. Surely there is a market for this, why dont they do it?

The side stuff like Origins were probably experiments at best. They understand at least that the franchise has a demographic far older than their intended targets, but the animated stuff is just safer to produce when aimed at that intended demographic.
They don't wanna lose money on an anime that won't be as much of a success as Ash's adventures. That's how I understand it, at least.
Shame, since I could easily see myself watching an idol anime with a Coordinator twist to it.

We got the mangas so there's that.

Watch X&Y. It's not nearly as basic, Ash acts like a relatively seasoned trainer, evolves his pokemon, and there is actual character development.
