Is it even worth it to try and learn now?

1. the population has been shrinking since black friday, and it's not the fish that are staying

2. all of the poker giants have at least 7 years experience, and they all had the luxury of learning in a much, MUCH softer environment

3. the nosebleeds consist of the exact same 10 guys waiting for the odd millionaire to come and spew some funds

4. FR is pretty much dead over 100nl

5. 6max is pretty much dead over 500nl

6. jungleman agrees that online poker is dying a slow death

by the time you become excellent, there won't be much value for you to scrape out

Absolutely. You can learn cheaply. There is so much free content out there, and there are plenty of online sites where you can learn to jump stakes with a minimum deposit. If you really want to learn and not gamble the game has never been better. Omaha and other variants are attracting whales. The game is still very alive.

 No.16

If you plan to make a living off it: probably not. You're way better off studying for a good exam that will guarantee you a satisfying paycheck without any variance.

If you're planning of having poker as a hobby where you can become a winning player of symbolic sums of money: abso-fucking-lutely.

Microstakes tournaments are still great fun if you're into strategy games at all.

 No.22

Live play is still pretty viable. The current state of nonregulation in the US will not last forever.

 No.23

I wouldn't say dying. More like stagnating for a bit.

People are always going to want to find a way to gamble. I expect more BTC sites to pop up eventually.

Too much money not too.

Also there's a bunch of states slowly legalizing it'll make it back.

Until then does anyone know of any online sites?

Nitrogen Sports has a pretty good poker room that accepts bitcoin.

Not too many people there but pretty good software.

It doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic. I would like to see this board start picking up and talking about what's happening in the poker world.

I'd like to see it too.

Speaking of, is there a one drop this year?

 No.20

Apparently, they had a one drop high roller with a $111,111 buy-in this year, but the $1 mil buy-in one… maybe they'll have it next year. I can't find anything definitive about it on google, they must have to schedule it.

Just saw this. Thanks for the response.

Guess the boards dying.

I'll try to come here more often.

Ah, thanks.

Weird, figured there would have been one.

What are your favorite books? Some of my favorites are:

Phil Gordon's Little Green and Little Gold Book by Phil Gordon
Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players by David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth
Super System 1 and 2 by Doyle Brunson
Pot Limit Omaha: The Big Play Strategy by Jeff Hwang
Reading Poker Tells by Zachary Elwood

There's a microstakes book by Black Rain.

Otherwise I just lurk 2p2 and watch streams/youtube.

Who's do you like to watch on youtube?

I know a guy who pays for an online training site. I sat down to watch one of them with him and I couldn't believe the lack of quality for something that he was paying $50 a month for. There are a lot of really good free videos out there, like splitsuit's stuff, that I can't believe people actually pay for convoluted erratic bullshit.

Post all your banner submissions here. Any content is welcome as I don't currently have access to a computer with image editing software.

First person to post a gif of Teddy KGB air humping with a /poker/ overlay gets positive gambling karma for a month

Where are your favorite places to play? I've tried it all: Online, Brick and Mortar Casinos, and Home Games.

They all have their advantages and disadvantages. I think which one you prefer says a lot about your personality. Online players are more introverted and enjoy working from home. Home Game regs enjoy the social aspect of the game, and are more likely to be far away from a Brick and Mortar, whereas BnM regs either moved somewhere to be close to the casino or are willing to drive a decent amount to play a lot.

I prefer BnM personally because after spending a good amount of time somewhere you learn who to play with and how, and can have solid game selection if you make friends with the dealers and floor. The only drawback is being around degens all day can rub off on you a little. It's hard to keep poker and other gambling separate when everyone around you is doing it. Thoughts?

 No.8

I definitely like playing online more. More relaxed and to me I can focus more. I play a lot less sloppy and think through my decisions more than live. I do play in semi-regular home games though, which is fun at times.

>main reason I have to play online is b/c it's the only way in my state

 No.17

I don't like homegames too much. Granted some are fish and fun to play against but there's also the douchebags you have to deal with and idiots that keep asking what you had etc. and looking at your folded cards when they think you're not looking, and targeting you presonally for ego reasons. You also have to keep count of the pot yourself and keep your pokerface and I'm not too good at that.

I'm getting increasedly annoyed with live poker and I'm afraid that I'm turning into a 100% online player.
