There's a difference between PR cucking and being pragmatic about how you present your movement/ideology. What Unite the Right did was galvanize the moderate Republicans (read: all Republicans in Congress, where actual political power is) and all Democrats against the right-wing. It made it a top priority legislatively for Congress to take what was, up to that point, a quietly gaining movement that pushed the overton window to the right, and made it a top political priority across the board. Were Trump to support them, even moderately, he'd be expending political capital where prior he could (for the time, rightly) claim that efforts to constrain the right were a totally unnecessary irrelevant expenditure to be cut.
