There are a few events in recent history that have gotten out of hand down here. The main difference is the presence of police. It's hilarious to me that local government would tell police to back down and not expect laws to be broken. You also have the NAACP (headquartered in Baltimore) telling blacks to avoid certain places down here. I guess they know lawbreakers will be charged and no shits will be given if someone gets swatted down.

David Duke showed his true stripes decades ago when he stole Pierce's list of donors and sold it to the ADL. And again when he stole campaign funds from Wallace's presidential run and the campaign didn't press charges to avoid the PR problem. Or when he defrauded his supporters in his congressional run and lost of all gambling which he was sentenced to prison time for. There's a lot of problems with Duke. He's a con artist and has been for a very long time.
