Brief essay on the current situation.
I've been studying the Spanish Civil War lately, there are many differences but it's interesting how faith in the monarchy collapsed followed by governments that whipsawed from extreme left to extreme right then back again over a short series of elections, pissing people off worse and worse until they were shooting each other over political affiliation and organized warfare broke out.
It was commonly said a decade or so ago that American politics is a pendulum, swinging a little too far one way for comfort, then pulled back to the center and overshooting the other way a little too much, then back through center etc. I haven't heard that calming pendulum analogy in some time, I think it's clear to us all that the Democrats (with globalist RINO support) pushed conservative voters a good deal past mere polite disagreement when they crowned Obama, shipped the jobs overseas, and declared open borders and the end of the Norman Rockwell social ideal, and conservatives have reacted with the ultimate reverse pendulum swing, electing Trump with a mandate to bulldoze Obama's legacy, build the fucking wall, and nuke the media, utterly infuriating the liberals and the old power structure.

Here we are, faith in the executive erased, faith in the legislature not even a memory, our own party leaders exposed as conspirators against our core principles more often then not, faith in the judiciary becoming a joke, the very Constitution twisted into justifications for the whims of the state, faith in police shattered, a mountain of proof that the news is a complete fabrication, a substantially verified belief that all the organs of state were weaponized against conservatives by the previous regime, unprosecuted treason at every level and a growing suspicion that politically motivated murder is being covered up by federal law enforcement that has been bought and paid for, every day bringing threats of violence and frequently actual violence from opposing parties whom we can hardly help but despise, the opposing party leadership publicly describing a quarter of the population an "irredeemable" blight on civilization…
Loss of faith in almost every pillar of society. Whipsaw elections scaring and infuriating people who feel helpless to protect their interests instead of releasing pressure as they should. Dehumanizing propaganda and orders to police to allow political violence against domestic political enemies - this shit is bad. This shit is very bad. And it's trending worse. I'm not saying the FEMA concentration camps open Monday, but based on my understanding of the history of self inflicted shitstorms we have a rapidly narrowing window in which to relieve these pressures, return civility to public discourse, and enforce the universal rule of law. Continuing the cycle of undermining faith in society, whipsawing extreme opposites in political power, dehumanizing and encouraging mob attacks on political opposition is historically the road to war, and we are not immune to history.
