Vapourwave and Synthwave are very different things. I don't write vapourwave.
I write in a lot of different styles - I've only been writing synthwave for a couple of months though. I like it - there is a lot of room for harmonic and melodic creativity that isn't available in other electronic genres, which are often rythm based. I also think it is distinctly "white" - the origins of the sound come from the mostly white 80s synth bands of Europe. Synths are also a white invention, of course. I also think the "epic" spacious sounds that are common in synthwave resonate with the European longing for infinite space, horizons which stretch beyond the borders of the mind.
So that's why I write SynthWave.
