>With the rise of government surveillance programs, Tox, a FOSS initiative, aims to be an easy to use, all-in-one communication platform that

ensures full privacy and secure message delivery.

I invite you to join our /pol/ group chat. Tox is the most secure program available for message, voice and video communications. New features are soon to

be added which will make the group chat protocol more robust and 100% decentralized, but for now we have a chatserver called groupbot (also used by the tox devs themselves).

Here are instructions for how to join:

1. Install qtox or any other tox client, then add this ID (the Groupbot) as a friend 56A1ADE4B65B86BCD51CC73E2CD4E542179F47959FE3E0E21B4B0ACDADE51855D34D34D37CB5

by clicking the + icon at the bottom left corner of the client.

2. Wait a moment until Groupbot appears online. Every time you wish to join the chat room, send this message to Groupbot: invite 1 pol

Considering its a fairly dead/inactive project as evidenced by the link below, you can be assured that no one is auditing the code for vulnerabilities. God you people are so fucking retarded and will believe any marketing materials you read.

It's an open source project, do you know what that means? People work on it for free. Lots of open source software has been published without a single donation.

It's useless for communicating with people you don't trust unless you use Tor or I2P and /pol/ has proven over and over that it's too stupid or lazy to set up either. Remember the Retroshare thread? Yeah.

Wasted Hitler dubs.

All you need to do is download the TOR browser executable and run it with the specified settings.

Tox is much, much easier to set up than Retroshare, and I use both.

Fuck off with your blatant defeatism shilling, /pol/ is smart enough to follow simple commands.

What is a VPN?

Oh fucking hell. I didn't even realise. The OP of this thread did not include the full instructions. Tox is not safe if you add anyone without protection. Groups are generally enough. TOR is sufficient but slow, I'd recommend using a VPN.

Using Tox is as bad as posting on 8ch/pol/ with a naked IP, but groups are more secure because it's based off of a P2P protocol, pinning an IP down to a specific user is extremely hard in a large group.

Anyhow here is the instructions for using tox over TOR.

https://wiki.tox.chat/users/tox_over_tor_tot

For your own safety read this post

>Windows

Download the Tor Expert Bundle and install: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

For qTox: https://github.com/tux3/qTox

>Verify Tor is running.

>Launch qTox, and navigate to settings by clicking on the cogwheel in the lower left-hand corner.

>Look under the General tab in settings and scroll down to the bottom to, Connection Settings.

>Uncheck UDP option to set it off.

>Uncheck IPv6 option to set it off.

>Set the Proxy type to SOCKS5.

>Address to 127.0.0.1 and Port 9050

>If you don't connect to the Tox network immediately, restart qTox and it should automatically connect to the Tox network via Tor.

>All you need to do is […]

That's the problem. I know people that would use funky elite hacker programs like Tox but when they find out it's not just download -> setup -> enjoy, even if the only intermediary step is as stupidly simple as /msg nickserv register dildo2003, they just go "meh whatever".

Every single community project I've ever been a part of on a /pol/ or related boards has crashed and burned within a couple weeks because the few people that do bother taking a couple minutes to get everything running lose interest when they realize how hard it is to get tech-mundane people to go through the initial motions. They see >>4840375 (no offense; nothing wrong with your post), say to themselves "wow okay nevermind" and head back to their containment threads.

It's a shame, too. I just want to talk to and get to know like-minded people while profiling them and reporting their behavior onto the database.

>All this defeatism and demoralisation.

If even 1% of /pol/acks use tox it's worth it. Even if the majority don't bother why dissuade the minority?

That's right, because you're a shill.

214926 No.4840846

>>4840542

I'm not dissuading anyone, I'm just saying that every time this thread comes up, all I end up doing is talking to people I've e-met before. Only exception to this was when I was invited to a Skype group but I don't have Skype and everyone in there was a memelord anyway.

Anyway, I'm way too lazy and hedonistic to do anything like this but someone would need to fix up a retardproof package that sets everything up for you. The problem of course then becomes willingness. Most people don't know how to deal with malicious files so they're afraid to download things linked from chans so this won't work either, huh.

To be honest I'd rather someone just make an IRC channel or something else that's easily accessible, i.e. people who don't know what a "Tor" is can just click on a mibbit link and boom they're in. Once a group is formed then you can start thinking about using higher security protocols but until then, all that stuff just drives people away.

We've had a decent group in Tox for months now, some come and go, some stay. Also, why would we want someone that can't even install a basic program in the room? Normies can keep Skype and IRC is cancer inducing.

How does Tox's security rate against something like Cryptocat?

5fdac3 No.4855248

>>4850898

Tox by it self is only semi secure but well above say Skype. You really need to be using at least Tor with it. A VPN can also be added to the mix for a little more security. The source is online for anyone to see, so any major security issue can be called out and corrected. As with any program how you use it can compromise the security as well. Don't accept friends unless you know them, this can leak an ip. /pol/tox groupchat is just talking about threads and random shit.
