Think back to the Renaissance, or the patronage system. Yes, the artists got money for their work, but it was less on the basis of capitalism, and more just the rich giving money so the artist could focus on making his work.

I've been working on my skills everyday so that I may start my graphic novel idea and have it publish someday. Dark fantasy with warriors and occultism mixed, with a Lovecraftian feel to the world. The story I have doesn't have a nationalist undertone sadly, more about a young boy warrior with a true male passion, who goes rogue against the other "heroes" for betraying him and letting dark entities corrupt the innocence of his love ones, which leaves him condemned and exiled as some sort of monster for his ruthless actions. I want some type of character to remind young boys of their male passion and its virtues even in dark times, but I'm still far from producing my idea at the skill I want.
