Justinian the Great saw the Eastern Roman Empire as a holy state, a glorious synthesis of Christ and Caesar that would save humanity. He fought the barbarians and took back Italy. He is considered by some "The Last Roman".
Gustavus Adolphus saw himself directly crowned by God and fought in the Thirty Years War, directly leading charges with genius strategy and dying nobly in battle.
Frederick the Great was similar to Gustavus Adolphus, except he succeeded and led Prussia to form a great Empire. A true genius and visionary who was one of Hitler's greatest heroes.

It hinges on the Apostles, really. These are human beings who collectively made the claim to have seen Jesus Christ, their teacher, who was crucified on a cross by order of the Romans by pressure from the Jews, raise from the dead three days after he had died.
The options we have are as follows:

>The Apostles were lying
>The Apostles were telling the truth
The first claim should defeat itself. I assume that one would have to be particularly anti-Christian on a partisan basis to even take this claim seriously. The chances that twelve human beings who previously had no relation to each other all coming together by the will of one leader who had not actually explained his rising from the dead in direct terms, somehow end up, after being in separate places, seeing their dead former leader in all his glory and even go so far as to touch him where he was pierced and even interact with him for a few weeks, and this was all just a delusion? A high, maybe? Let’s not consider this argument any further.
That leaves us with two options. They were either lying or telling the truth.
But consider the following facts:
First of all, the first witnesses to the empty tomb were women. If we were to assume that the writers of the Bible did actually lie, and wanted to appeal to the Jews and Greco-Roman idea of proper witness, then they would have absolutely no use for female witness. Female witness was seen as half that of a man’s in court of law and was generally not taken seriously. The same can be said for the Greek and Roman worlds.
Now, after this, the Apostles begin preaching a resurrected Christ. How did they come up with such a concept? Let’s look at Jewish and Greek understandings of divinity:
As per the Jewish understanding of the Messiah, what they were expecting was none other than a glorious political ruler. The Saducees were not expecting something significant, given their rejection of anything other than the Torah. The Pharisees had accepted a certain interpretation of the prophets that foresaw the Messiah coming to return Israel from the spiritual exile in Babylon and return glory to the nation of Israel. The Zealots were not expecting anything other than a ruler to break the shackles of Roman rule (which is why a large portion of the Jews saw Simon Bar-Kokhba as Messiah during his rebellion). There were earlier “Messiahs”, and generally their movements involved the death of the leader, and the leadership was given to the closest male relative/brother. Jesus had one such figure in the form of St. James, but this was not the case, and they chose not to go through with that.
Now, the Greeks had their own understanding of the divines. Divinity in Greek Philosophy of course involves something that clearly shows itself to be powerful and great, and something to be reached. An archetype of behaviour, if you will. However, they envisioned their gods as powerful, lightning-and-thunder glorious gods whose enemies would not dare face.
In both cases, the idea that the Son of God, that the Saviour of the World, would die on a cross only to be resurrected was alien. It was hardly believable, and quite frankly, to anyone wishing to invent a lie, it was quite absurd to go with that idea.
So what we have here is a poorly constructed lie, not in tune with either audiences to which it is being addressed, which bases itself on the influence of women, concerning a “God” who had apparently died at the mercy of a few soldiers and angry mobs.
But there’s more.
The Apostles, if they had lied, would seem to have something to gain from this lie. No account tells us of the Apostles doing anything other than abandoning riches and dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to the pursuit of spreading their message. If you were a cult leader, and you knew that what you did was a lie, would you not wish to gain something for your lie? And would you die for this lie? Let’s assume that the authorities threaten you with torture, imprisonment, or death unless you renounce your belief. Would you not do it?
And yet, out of the twelve apostles, only St. John died of old age, in exile on the island of Patmos. The rest of the Apostles received brutal torture or murder, but none of them renounced their faith.
Having said all this, I think that it’s quite valid to assume that the Apostles were not lying. And if they were not lying, then they were telling the truth, and if they told the truth, Christ has resurrected from the dead. And if He has resurrected from the dead, the Christian faith is true, and the Christian faith preaches the divinity of Christ, thereby proving Christ’s divinity.

Why create something and destroy it if you can just destroy what someone else created? The effects are indistinguishable. Europe was Christian for nearly two millenia; for half of the last one, Christianity has been slowly in decline. If it took centuries, it's not incredibly easy.

Christian Europe was a terrible place to live if you weren't an aristocrat or a rabbi. Peasants were treated as commodities, existing only to live and die working the fields so a Christian monarch could send nobles to kill shitskins in a foreign land. First of all, what exactly is your criteria for "well"? Second of all, Christianity's relatively rapid success had more to do with attaching itself to Greco-Roman success like a parasite than any other factor. Third of all of all, c'mon son. Even just limiting ourselves to civilizations that we can verify through archaeological means (ie. no Herodotus-tier hearsay or >implications like the Celts and their pre-Roman infrastructure) I can think of a pretty damn large list right off the top of my head that have done "well", whatever the hell that means.
