In all honesty, I don't give a fuck about games anymore. The last game I truly enjoyed was "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory", and that came out in about 2006 or so.

Gaming as we know it (Spyro, Sly Cooper, Medievil, etc.) has been dead since around 2001. The market doesn't care about us anymore, and never will again. Kids born in a post 9/11 society are 15 years old. They grew up with multiplayer gaming, Ipads, and DLC bullshit.

For Folley, I can find nothing about what he's made on Wikipedia or in 5 seconds of Googling (and if you can't find anything about his work at in the first couple of results, there's no work worth noting). Same for Leslie Kinzel. (inb4 (((Wikipedia))) and (((Google))) )

Tak Fujii all I'm finding on Google is stuff about him having worked for Konami and having left it (and nothing about what he actually worked on for them) and all I see on Wikipedia is reference to him in one game that did incredibly poorly.

Indie developers are by and large a clique of irrelevant hipsters who think themselves far more important than they ever could be. Consumers don't give a shit about any of these people. None of them have or likely ever will make anything noteworthy.

The GDC itself is little more than a convention for these people to pat themselves on the back and pretend they're doing a good job. They are the game developer's equivalent of the retarded kid in art class who stuck his hand in the paint and rubbed it all over the paper while the other children were drawing pictures of their pets and families. They sit there eating paste and the teacher has to give them a gold star because otherwise they'll feel left out when they see the kids who actually drew decent pictures have theirs hung up on the wall.

What this is all a result of is simply the fact that game development software has become incredibly readily available. Unity and UDK are both fairly easy to use and free to download. You only have to pay once you start making money off it. As long as you have a bit of coding knowledge (and it doesn't take much for the simple sort of games these people tend to make) and artistic skill (again, very lowbar if you look at the standard these people tend to go for), you can easily throw something together.

The two largest ways of distributing indie games are Steam and via mobile devices. The bar for entry is incredibly low and quality control is almost non-existent. Mobile games in particular are a wild-west sort of situation where the best way of making money is tricking stupid children into spending their parents money on worthless in game items or somehow finding an autistic adult with the same lack of impulse control.

These people pat themselves on the back and tell themselves they are important and they are doing good things because they heavily virtue signal. They have to because they lack the talent and the drive to actually make something enjoyable, meaningful, or worthwhile. They do it despite the fact that whey will never make money or be successful doing it. They take their pet causes very seriously despite the fact that no one else does. They do it because it is the only amount of satisfaction they will ever have in their pathetic lives.

These people are cancer. But they're largely irrelevant cancer. Game devs (independent or otherwise) with actual skill and talent don't waste their time on pointless SocJus causes. They have better things to do.
