The reason people complain about /pol/ as a hugbox and how /pol/ hates free speech is because moderation is put in place to throw out people who come here only to derail conversations and slide threads down the catalog. There are hundreds of thousands, even millions of places around the internet for people who disagree with us to go. Places even hosted on this very website where people may go to discuss topics that are welcome here. You see, the same thing that happened in Chicago about a week ago has been happening in places such as /pol/ for years. Droves of people who disagree come only to attempt to silence our free speech via mass-mob mentality. This reminds me of Sir Oswald Mosley; I encourage you who haven't seen this video to watch it in it's entirety. There cannot be "free speech" on /pol/ on because we're a magnet for an overabundance of people who hate actual free speech because it's not their speech or because they disagree with other's opinions. Hence we have moderation to deal with those who seek only to subvert and destroy this place. What has occurred today is that that the moderation team has wiped away the ban list; for what reason I cannot fathom. Maybe it's an internal issue, maybe the moderation has been compromised, maybe it was a way to flush out mis-managed bans. We shall all feel whatever consequences come in the coming days but until then we can not know to what extent this will have on the board.

I don't think the userbase is comprised of the same people it used to be. There was a post here a while back that I thought had a pretty interesting theory on the switch: before, you mostly had people who arrived at their political beliefs despite having to go against what anyone in the mainstream believed, so you ended up with a board of mostly free-thinkers. Now, any average Republican who happens to support Trump (e.g. about 40% of the country and rising) would find themselves completely home on /pol/, so you wind up with a lot of people who aren't used to actually questioning things beyond a superficial level, or challenging their own beliefs in any way.
I'm glad that Trump is running and I'll likely be voting for him, but the effect all of this has had on this board has probably been a net negative.

I got fed up and didn't come in here for a while after pointing out Trump's rhetoric on Israel and getting called kike for the 20th time. The argument that "well he just says that because he had to" is almost equally lame, especially considering Frank Marshall Davis Jr Obama supporters to this day still use that argument to dismiss all of his failed promises. I changed my thinking after Chicago though, when Rubio and Cruz both made it obvious they were really, realllly scared of this guy. A lot of the current crop of voters grew up with the internet, they see stories from time to time where even the people we call the bluest of blue pilled still know the system in this country is fucked right now.

They are waking up to the political corruption, and they are waking up to the fact that the mainstream media sites are comically manipulated. So they know that if they want to push the "CHANGE" concept again they need to paint to the candidate as an outsider. Because that is honestly the only way people think something could change, which of course ignores one of the facts that all /pol/acks should know, that our entire country is a ZOG puppet state, and the president has absolutely zero power when it comes down to it, and if that is challenged, the President will be JFK'd, and we'll get our little LBJ 2.0 who will be the bestest of good goys because he wants his brain to remain in his skull.
So people buy into it, and the media(which a lot of the public has actually woken up to the fact that the MSM is nothing but propaganda anymore), does what they are told to do(which if Trump was a total outsider, they would not be saturating the airwaves with him 24/7, think critically here), and his approval ratings are going through the roof, and the whole entire country is falling in love with him now.
But meanwhile he talks about intervening in Syria and Iraq with an actual ground invasion, and says whistle blowers should be killed, and the internet needs to be censored(don't give me any bullshit about specific locations, I do not like any type of censorship at all, especially considering that one of ISIS purposes for being created by the ZOG is to pass more Patriot Act type constitutional violations, THIS SHOULD BE A GIANT RED FLAG SINCE WE KNOW WHO ACTUALLY CREATED ISIS)and that companies like Apple should be forced to give backdoor access in spite of that being against everything we are about here, I always honestly thought that we did not like shit like that, and I know /pol/ isn't one person, but that goes against our basic principles.

I think you overestimate the control over the media, not in general, but in this one instance.
I think that he got so much coverage in the first place because most people thought his candidacy wasn't sincere. He's run before, after all, and then pulled out, so people thought he would do the same this time.
So the media ran countless stories on him "blowing out his outrageous statements" in entertaining pieces and waiting for him to drop out.
By the time people realized that he was serious and had been planning a presidential run for years, the media coverage had snowballed to become so large that it couldn't be shut down.
Even if you have control over every little piece, the entire system is disjoint and laggy, and each piece releases public reports on the other pieces.
The red flags are real, though.

Israel does in fact, have a right to exist as a sovereign nation.
They have a reasonably large Army and a couple dozen nuclear weapons to argue with if there is another harsh disagreement.

Last fall, /intl/ hit us HARD. They eradicated the board as far as we were concerned. Our BO had fucked off months ago and we were getting the occasional spam thread for a while.. and then they decided to flood everything. They wiped the catalog clean. Any thread we tried to make was flooded with faggots starting arguments.
They spammed us with brownpill and other copypasta. This is something easily fixed with a quick "delete all posts by IP" action by the mods, and a simple ban. They are prone to using bots and scripts to do this, but it's easy enough to deal with.
They shat up every thread discussing the matter by arguing in circles. They use a strange form of debate where they don't really argue the point, or any point, they just make a lot of vague, slightly bait-ish statements in an effort to get replies. All they are doing is arguing for entertainment's sake. If you see this shit happen and you spot someone starting shit without a point, DO NOT ENGAGE. This is simple imageboard 101 stuff, but still, with /intl/ their goal is derailment of any and every thread.
There's also some run-of-the-mill shitposting in there. What stands out about it is that if they aren't banned immediately and their posts or threads are deleted, they will quickly start an argument about the mods infringing on free speech. Anyone defending shitposting as freespeech while attacking Hotwheels, and insisting the site is just like plebbit is almost guaranteed to be an /intl/ shitposter.
One of the more clever things they do is exploit anonymity to sow dissent and paranoia to enact divide and conquer tactics. On /tg/, while we were being bombarded, several people showed up to advertise new boards to use. Some were genuinely good natured, but others were more questionable, especially since they were shilled constantly and the BOs were too eager to try and seize power.
Anyone offering an alternative to /pol/ when things get bad, or insisting that someone else should take over /pol/ is not to be trusted. If they can split and scatter the userbase, make it inconvenient to operate as normal, and create friction between smaller groups of users, they have a far better chance of destroying a board and it's community permanently. I hate to use this example, but look at GamerGate. They went through several boards and now even /v/ has dedicated shitposters against GG.
/intl/'s biggest goals seem to be the destruction of any pillars of imageboard communities. Legacy boards and top 25 boards are their favorite targets because they attract the most users and promote the most activity across the site.
However, their tactics are largely based on the goal of convincing you that they are worth more of your time than it takes for the BO or Mods to ban and delete them.
