And this just so happened to coincide with participation of a certain group, that rarely if ever put forward their own arguments, but instead focused on harassment, flaming(insults), dogpiling, and attempting to lure opponents into either flaming back or trigger "Hate Speech" rules to get them banned. Said group would rarely have two of its core constituents in the same thread, instead dividing effort across different threads, subjects, etc. But the group itself was easy to parse out.
The new forum was owned by a collection of Lawyers, one of which apparently spends more time shitposting on his website than doing his actual job. This, temporarily, triggered a quitting of mods on the original forum…..until several months later, said subversive group ended up in control of BOTH websites. To the point that it looks more like a bullshit job intended to free the original site owner and his friend from responsibility and hand it over to a group that had defacto domination over it.
TLDR this bullshit has been going on since at least 2005, when the Canuck Lawyer joined the original forum. From that point on, instead of being a sci-fi/fantasy forum, it began to become more political/anime. and finally political/questshit. I'm probably being a bit too optimistic when I say I'm sure a majority of us can spot an obvious shill and either ignore them or brush them off while going about on our merry way.
Personally I think a lot of these so-called "defeatist shills" are just /pol/ocks expressing their concern. They have what's best in mind for us, but simply see it from a different perspective. Some of us are better at an offensive battle and others at the defensive. We need both at reasonable extents to succeed. A hyper-aggressive approach can weaken morale a lot if done wrong.
As for the legitimate shills themselves, let them come. More opportunities to hone our own skills and beliefs.
