Can we just get rid of the Electoral College already?
I understand why it was made, in order to keep the pres from only caring about big states but with the way it works now only swing states get any love and in doing so brings the national voting percentage down.

It was actually made so the South couldn't count blacks towards their voting power.
Still, I think the electoral college is fine so long as it runs on proportional representation instead of first past the post, and the Senate is elected by the house/governor

get rid of it
how is it conducive to "democracy" at all?
No.845
>>755If we got rid of it, there would be a one party system. Democrats would win nearly every election.
It would favors residents of shithole cities rather than suburban or rural voters.

I think that it should be reformed but it's a good idea in theory.

>>845>we would have a one party systemExcept, you know, the house and senate which tend to get republicans fairly often. Just because the populace seems to be voting democrat for president now doesn't mean they'll do so every time. Especially if the coalitions within the democratic party become so incompatible with each other that large segments of supporters won't vote for the party

Votes shouldn't be equal!
No.1039
>>845>Democrats would win nearly every electionNope. Republicans have always shown to be a more steady voter base and if they didn't then that is their fault. We have had a basically one party system before in the early 1900s.

United States is fucked up because it's a federation. Who thinks the EU is democratic? Pretty much nobody. So Europeans put all their energy into state elections.
In the United States, everyone is so invested in Federal elections that state elections don't work any more either. So the whole fucking country just breaks down into Roman-style oligarchy.
