As far as i can tell, they are just making a more concerted effort to get rid of shitposting. Some OP's got hit in the crossfire though, but that is to be expected on an imageboard. One major mistake the mods did was try to limit Trump threads due to the endless spam of them, but that backfired quite a bit. From what I see most posters on /pol/ dont give a shit either way and just continue to add to the discussion.
There is a dedicated few individuals who keep trying to sew seeds of dissent into /pol/ tho, whether you want to name them SA goons, /int*/ or whatever. They don't even come on to the board to discuss politics or anything useful, they just spam meta issues. It's also not localized to /pol/, you can see this on /v/, /b/ and other boards. It is quite interesting to observe. For the most part /pol/ posters do not seem to give a shit about the divide tactics.
