Until recently Russians had no clue how many people Stalin killed, I was talking to a russian girl who had just found out, she asked me if i knew about it, when i said yes she was shocked, the whole thing blew he mind.

It's because the Holocaust is for once a marketing campaign and therefore also a meme. There have been countless genocides, especially in the 20th century humanity reached the furtherst heights of cruelty and terror. Regardless wheter you think the Holocaust happend or not, it was an event among others and neither the genocide with the highest bodycount nor with the most cruel methods of executions. The Holocaust is a marketing plot, hence the slogan "Never forget" or "fighting against forgetting" has a specific meaning. It's not refering to genocides, there are at least six genocide happening right now, it's refering to the jewish inviolability. Of course most people know this already but I think it's an important point when dicussing the holocaust with normies.

One of the motivating factors for the holohoax was post-justification for attacking germany. Its important for civil peace that the beaten enemy is portrayed as mega evil.
