Because we kind of all live here and you leeching chemicals into the ground or polluting water sources affects the ecosystem and the people who live in it, potentially for hundreds (or even thousands) of years. Of course corporations can get away with this and you can't because you're a pleb.

That being said, a lot of the bureaucratic process is bullshit. Anything not regarding pollution, over-hunting, or excessive noise is no one elses business imo.

In Ancapistan it would work much like international politics, with private property playing the role of national sovereignity.

If you build a house and your land is large enough, no one will care. If you build, say, a chemical factory they'll ask a few questions. If you build a nuclear reactor, you'd better have damn good answers for those questions. Otherwise "diplomatic tensions" will escalate and there will be risk of "war".
