I'm for lighter moderation and being able to use animu images and having politically incorrect (on topic) discussions, but antagonistic attitudes and claiming you're "taking over this board" is doing more harm to the process of changing the board culture in order to allow these things than the people whining about it. No, you don't have to drive the newfags away for the board culture to change. Everyone starts as a newfag, and elitist attitudes will only hurt the board game in the long run.

Self moderation works both ways. Don't antagonize people who whine, you're just giving them more of a reason to keep whining. Hide and ignore them and eventually they will learn the board culture, or if they fail that then they can leave (and good riddance at this point).
