Keep in mind you're not talking to people like me or yourself, who came to 8chan in September last year and who were tired of 4chan's authoritarian moderation. These are not the people who participated in that first 8/pol/ strawpoll where it was determined the overwhelming majority of the userbase supported light, hands-off moderation, and who posted with us in the /pol/ Touhou threads back in 2014 (along with the old board vols and even the owner).

These are people who were perfectly fine with having the SJW hotpocket cock rammed into their boipussies until j00tles nuked their board and virtually forced them out: they are decemberfags, second-wavers, newshits who only recently found out about imageboards while browsing stormfront/reddit/facebook. They love rules and honestly believe shitposting on anime imageboards is serious business.

Ironically, the events which transpired in December and January are strikingly similar to what is happening throughout the western world as we speak: hordes of immigrants flooding the country with the aggressive intent not to integrate and assimilate, but to take over and to enforce their own ideas and values within the new homeland. Most of the old /pol/ users who made the board good in the past scattered and left for different places free of rulefaggotry, stormcuck circlejerking, and unironic shill calling. They migrated to the smaller /pol/ splinters, or to /int/, or even returned to 4chan. The second exodus first drove the post quality down to abysmal lows, and then turned the moderation into a right-wing reflection of 4chan's and reddit's leftist authoritarianism when the old mods resigned. The /pol/ we once knew and enjoyed is dead.

Boards like /tg/ and /sp/ back in 4chan before modfaggotry became rampant had off topic shit. The best boards were not a place for people to be railroaded into the state topic , but people who liked the stated topic to talk to eachother. Its why boards like /tg/ and /sp/ were the best , and why they were ruined when an idoit gained controll of /tg/ in 2010 and banned anything that wasn't 40k , MtG , or D&D for not being "/tg/ enough". I remember when moot brought back /n/ and /new/ as /pol/, where self moderation was encouraged which created a relaxed atmosphere. The discussion was great too, economic threads, communist/libertarian debate threads, etc. Until VNN or some offshoot Nationalist forum started to sway the board. Then the racemixing cuckold threads started popping up because people would bite due to Nationalists labeling any dissenter "JIDF". History repeats itself, i saw this happen on 4chon.net too, now it's happening on this site.

For as bad as it is to have a board that's low quality , its even worse to have a board that is low quality and has horrendous moderation.

A low quality board that is fairly free can still at least come up with a gem or do something notable every now and then , with heavy moderation that's even harder because no one is going to put their time into a board , that at the end of the day they might get banned for offending the mods' arbitrary sense of quality.
