There will be some general reading guides put up. If you want to recommend a book that is already within them then provide a 1 sentence main point summary and another sentence explaining what category you would put it to for example. "The fate of Empires discusses the cycle that all major empires have so far cycled through, but it may not have to be so. This is recommended reading for those still believing that in the modern age we are totally unlike our forebears." If you are putting up a general book guide then please label it in some way so that if there are two similar guides we can easily discern why they differ. For discussions beyond brief summaries please make a new thread.

The first book here is written by a Professor of Genomic Medicine. He studies genetic diversity and susceptibility to disease. You may need at least a basic biology understanding of genes and evolution to really appreciate the book. If you are the type that looks things up for more details that they read in nonfiction books anyways then I recommend this to you even without a science background. A quote from the professor: "It might be that it’s a genetic difference lying outside of the gene within the regulatory sequence that controls how much protein we produce. Although those are more subtle, they're perhaps more common and very much more important in these complex disease traits than we’d initially anticipated. " The book guide seems to have survived unaltered for many years and I've not seen anyone make negative remarks about the books contained therein.
