>>11835Did the Nazis had plans to conquer land in the East?
Yes, it's clear they had plans to conquer land or colonies in order to provide for a auto-sufficient and growing Germany in the future.
Russian lands in particular.
Was the invasion of Poland about it?
No, the problem with Poland was going since before Hitler came to power.
Persecutions of Germans in Germans cities were happening and of others minorities too.
The Poles wanted at any cost a degermanification of those cities and to integrate them to Poland, even though there were virtually no Poles living in there and they were just separated from Germany after WWI.
Relations between Poland and Germany were improving since Hitler came to power, he had a good relation with the head of Poland, but after his death those relations deteriorate.
pic related: Hitler attending a service for him in Berlin.
And every year they commemorate the day of his death, Hitler really admired him.
So, they kept trying to negotiate after his death with Poland but nothing came out of it.
And, in 1939, the situation was getting more intense as was the persecutions, and Germany decided it had reached its limit and gave a ultimatum to Poland, but, again, Poland ignored it.
The pact with the Soviets was signed just 1 week before the invasion, and even after that Hitler tried to reach a deal one more time.
He expected that with this deal, with the Soviets, he would keep England and France out of it, Germany plan was always to be a ally to those countries.
A spy sent Roosevelt a telegram about the German-Soviet deal the day it was signed.
The allies knew the Soviets would invade and divide Poland with the Germans, but decided not to tell it to the Poles.
Then, Germany invaded, took Poland, Hitler gave a speech trying to stay in peace with England and France saying that he didn't wanted war.
England and France declared war on Germany.
Germany kept trying not to engage with England.
Rudolf Hess flied in a solo mission to England trying at any cost to make peace with them, he was promptly arrested kept in prison till the end of the war, after the war tried as war criminal and spent the rest of his life in prison.
