There are some basic things like being required to accept cash as payment and having to refund purchases within the first 30 (or more) days. Having to honor advertised prices.
The most common fraud I see is advertising a product on sale they don't have any of. In some places they will be required to take 'rain checks' where they honor the sale as soon as they obtain more of the product. This is why electronics have model numbers. They change the number and claim it's a different item; which is also to avoid price matching competitors.
A lot of extended warranties are just the manufacturer's coverage being offered by the retail outlet. Hard drives come to mind. You can deal with the manufacturer instead for free* (cost of postage/time investment).
