Came across two news stories and I'm absolutely baffled right now. tl;dr A rugby club at University of Mary Washington is getting dogpiled for their rugby chants which have been deemed 'offensive and misogynist'. Meanwhile, "UT Arlington student columnist Lita Bush" "reconcile[s] feminism with misogynistic rap" by applying a subjective interpretation of the lyrics to fit her agenda. Bitches and Hoes? More like Shitlords and Cis Scum amiright?

>University dismisses rugby club for explicit misogynistic chant

a few snips….
The University of Mary Washington has disbanded its men’s club rugby team months after a recording emerged of several players chanting misogynistic lyrics.
The chant was reportedly initiated during a small party at an off-campus house on a Sunday afternoon in November of 2014. Of the Mother’s Rugby team’s 46 members, only eight are said to have been in attendance. The remaining 38 players were in Maryland for a game.
Though the incident occurred in late November, the school did not announce disciplinary actions against the club, which has been named club of the year three times, until March 18. The team was dissolved indefinitely and all members are required to attend sexual assault training.
Lyrics to the song included explicit references to necrophilia and violence against women. Erin Gloria Ryan of Jezebel transcribed a section of the lyrics: (see article)
Kilmartin, who offered to lead the team’s required sexual assault and violence training sessions, told Campus Reform the classes would “teach about rape culture [and] how it’s perpetuated and reinforced.” Kilmartin believes the majority of men don’t like sexism but that they’re not properly equipped to speak up when they experience it.
Still, after being approached in a dining hall by a group of rugby players who assured her they were “open to chat whenever you want to,” Paige McKinsey, the president of FUC, turned the players down and reported the incident to the university’s Title IX coordinator.
"An entire group of men approached me… It made me feel very unsafe,” she told Jezebel.
“The University of Mary Washington is a public institution and is therefore legally bound to respect the First Amendment rights of its students and faculty members,” Will Creeley, an attorney at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), told Jezebel.
"Exceptions to the First Amendment are limited to a narrow subset of precisely defined categories, and the Supreme Court has made clear that there's no First Amendment exception for speech that is simply offensive, even if it repels many, most, or even all who encounter it,” Creeley said.

“The dissolution of the rugby team was definitely a violation of freedom of speech, but it is more of an issue of the schools overreaching in non-UMW sanctioned places,” Tardif said. “The chant could make people feel uncomfortable, in which freedom of speech would no longer apply just like yelling "fire" in a movie theater. But, that doesn't give the University the right to police the actions of students when they're not on campus. It's inappropriate and frankly scary to see the school getting involved in such an environment.”

And then this;

“How does a feminist reconcile his or her belief in gender equality with an unjustifiable love of oft-misogynistic rap music?” This was the question UT Arlington student columnist Lita Bush set out to answer in her latest column for the university newspaper, The Shorthorn.
“The good news,” Bush writes, “it’s possible to do without giving up rap entirely.” "Men can be bitches and hoes. Easily." How might a feminist accomplish this? Bush goes on to give “tips for guilt-free rap appreciation.”
One way a feminist can appreciate rap music is by treating any misogynist lyrics as if they were gender neutral. That is, feminists can appreciate a misogynist song if both genders are presumed to be the target of any offensive language.
“Men can be bitches and hoes. Easily,” Bush explains. Bush’s next tip: treat rappers like babies. “Realize that male rappers who rap about violence against women are really just baby boys expressing their deep-seated mommy issues through misdirected anger toward all women.”
Bush’s last tip is to treat misogynist lyrics as though they actually appreciative of women. “Realize that rappers who objectify women are simply expressing their appreciation for the female form through the only means they know how: crass, yet somehow generic analogies comparing female anatomy to cars or baked goods.” If none of these tips seems to work, Bush suggests that her readers “[s]eek out rap that isn’t misogynistic.” Bush goes on to offer the rapper Common as an example of rap that isn’t misogynistic. “Feminism is about doing whatever is right for you and not being limited by your gender,” she concludes.

so what's the fucking difference?

As a former rugby player, rugby chants, while vulgar, are funny as shit and part of the culture. I just can't even imagine what it would be like to return to college during a time of 'safe spaces' and 'inclustivity' just to find that said spaces are restricted only to those conforming to the current dogma. And then this shit about rap, finding ways to shortcut your way around your own beliefs just to enjoy something that goes against everything you stand for.

That's it. I'm fucking done with these people. This bullshit duality has gone far enough. So what the fuck is feminism anymore? On one hand, you have 'slut walks', FEMEN, 50 shades of whatever the fuck and pornography labeled as the purest form of feminine objectivity and resistance against the patriarchy. On the other hand, you have these rabid hambeasts running around saying the culture, fashion and sexuality of modern day western society is an oppressive, patriarchal social construct. I can't even finish my thoughts, that's how bewildered I am. I always knew this hypocrisy existed, but for some reason this was the tipping point for me.

Fuck man, truly these are the last days.
