The Gamergate movement was doomed from the start. Since it began, numerous warnings have been made to not let it become Chanology 2.0.
Anon is strong and scary because he is Anon.
He is nothing.
He is formless, and shapeless.
You has put faces and names to Anon. You have become weak.
Now it suffers the same fate as Occupy Wallstreet, a slow co-opt as the oldfags leave and power hungry people fill in the spot. If it survives the year (with any potency remaining), color me surprised.
Now, Gamergate certainly wasn't without it's victories. Several SJWs were purged from gaming news sites, Gawker media lost in the 7 figures, and above all, we let the world know that anon was still very much alive. This site, although not created for Gamergate, became what it was (and is) largely due to Gamergate and moot's fuckery. The early days here had an air to them much like the old times. Seeing 4chan history essentially repeat in fast forward was a real treat. It's hard to believe how long ago it was, "8chan isn't all about you brianna wu!". Truly epic lulz like that will not likely be had again, or at least not for a very long time.
So now, around 10 months after the exodus, you can go up on a thread in the archives and lurk back, and with the right kind of eyes you can see the high water mark –that post where Gamergate's wave finally broke and rolled back.
