I agree that /pol/ was shit for at least a few months before April 1. Mods were acting oblivious to the spikes of shit threads all at once.
As /pol/ has no ability to self-moderate it would take 24/7 shifts of dedicated volunteers (with said pattern recognition) to detect and delete shit threads. We haven't had volunteers with any kind of discretion or dedication in a long time.
It's not that hard though, the main problem is dealing with (legit or more likely illegitimate) complaints that they are overstepping. Because even when it's obvious based on patterns or spikes that a certain type of thread should be removed, there will be legitimate (well intentioned if still stupid) threads caught up occasionally.
