posted this over on /pol/ and /k/

https://in.news.yahoo.com/turkey-us-airbase-deal-envisages-101249300.html

>A landmark deal between Turkey and the United States for US warplanes to use a Turkish airbase to attack Islamic State (IS) jihadists in Syria foresees a no-fly zone along part of the Syrian border, a report said Friday

>The no-fly zone would back up a planned safe zone on the ground that would extend up to 50 kilometres (31 miles)inside Syria.

>Turkish warplanes on Friday for the first time bombed IS targets in Syria.

>"US planes equipped with bombs and missiles will be able to use the Incirlik Air Base" for raids against IS, the agreement says according to Hurriyet. Turkey could back up the air raids with artillery

>War planes of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will not be able to enter the no-fly zone and will be targeted if they do so, it said.

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/Default.aspx?pageID=238&nID=85850&NewsCatID=510

>A recent joint action consensus between Turkey and the United States, which includes the use of the İncirlik Airbase in southern Turkey in fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadists, also covers a partial no-fly zone over the Turkey-Syria border, according to Turkish sources.

>The 90-kilometer line between Syria’s Mare and Cerablus will be 40 to 50 kilometers deep, sources told daily Hürriyet, while elaborating on the consensus outlined by Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç, following a cabinet meeting on July 22.

>However, sources avoided saying whether such a zone would be broadened in the future.

http://www.dailysabah.com/nation/2015/07/23/turkey-gives-us-led-coalition-access-to-incirlik-air-base-in-fight-against-isis

>The second step of the plan aims to provide air support for Syrian opposition fighters in northern Syria

>While Turkey has long called for the creation of a safe zone inside Syria to protect its borders and provide some protection for refugees fleeing both Syrian regime forces and ISIS militants who have seized swathes of Iraq and Syria, it has been reported that the U.S administration will now endorse the idea

Surprise, surprise. Kebab uses this opportunity of positive kikenews PR to bombard PKK instead of ISIS.

http://www.rt.com/news/310721-turkey-attacks-isis-kurds/

>The Turkish PM’s office has said their fighter jets bombed seven militant Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets in Northern Iraq, AFP reported.

>Turkey also launched simultaneous ground attacks against the PKK and Islamic State in northern Syria, Reuters said, citing the PM’s office.

>The airstrikes targeted PKK warehouses, logistics points, living quarters and storage buildings, Turkish authorities said in a statement.

>The overnight air assault was the first Turkish strike against Kurds in northern Iraq since a peace deal between Ankara and the PKK separatists was announced in 2013.

>The Kurdistan Workers Party announced in its website that after last night's airstrikes and ground military attacks, the truce with Turkey has “no meaning anymore.”

http://www.todayszaman.com/diplomacy_turkey-strikes-isil-pkk-targets-in-drive-for-safe-zone_394589.html

>The attacks on the outlawed PKK, which has waged a three-decade war against Turkey, could kill off stumbling peace talks between the group and Ankara, which were started in 2012 but have been stalled lately.

>Separately, İstanbul authorities said they would not let organisers go ahead with a peace march planned for Sunday, citing concerns about security and "dense traffic".

Turkey calls for NATO meeting to discuss security threats

http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/7/26/car-bomb-kills-two-turkish-soldiers.html

>Turkey on Sunday called for a meeting of its NATO allies to discuss threats to its security and its airstrikes targeting Kurdish and Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) rebels.

>The move came as Turkey's state-run media reported that Turkish F-16 jets again took off from the country's southeastern Diyarbakir air base to hit Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets across the border in northern Iraq.

>The PKK said Saturday that the airstrikes likely spelled the end of a cease-fire announced in 2013.

>Hours before the call to convene alliance members, Turkish authorities said PKK fighters used a car bomb to target a military vehicle in the country’s southeast, killing two soldiers and wounding four others.

>NATO announced that its decision-making body, the North Atlantic Council, would convene Tuesday after Ankara invoked the alliance's Article 4, which allows member states to request a meeting if they feel their territorial integrity or security is under threat.

It's genuinely amazing just how much Turkey does this type of thing

c8dd2b No.15879

http://www.businessinsider.com/nato-to-hold-an-incredibly-rare-emergency-meeting-2015-7

> For just the fifth time in its 66-year history, NATO ambassadors will meet in emergency session Tuesday to gauge the threat the Islamic State extremist group poses to Turkey, and the debated actions Turkish authorities are taking in response

>The extraordinary meeting at NATO headquarters was requested by Turkey under Article 4 of the treaty that founded the U.S.-led alliance, which empowers its 28 member states to seek such consultations when they consider their "territorial integrity, political independence or security" to be in jeopardy.

>According to official NATO records, there have been only four other so-called Article 4 meetings since the U.S.-led alliance was created in 1949.

Basically Turkey is invoking Article 4 in regards to Syria. This is going to be used to justify the no fly zone and most likely Turkish boots on the ground with significant US support.

And now Israel's getting their dick involved, a 40 year peace treaty has been broken, tanks are rolling past the border and into Syrian government territory. Shit, I would say, is not great.

Islamic State Blows Up Ancient Temple at Syria’s Palmyra Ruins

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/24/world/middleeast/islamic-state-blows-up-ancient-temple-at-syrias-palmyra-ruins.html?_r=0

>Islamic State militants have destroyed a temple at the ancient ruins of Palmyra in Syria, activists said on Sunday, realizing one of archaeologists’ worst fears for the 2,000-year-old Roman-era city after the extremists seized it and beheaded a local scholar.

http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Israeli-bombing-of-Syria-aimed-at-rallying-US-Jews-against-Iran-nuclear-deal-412934

ISIS Allegedly Uses Chemical Weapons In Syria Attack: Report

http://www.ibtimes.com/isis-allegedly-uses-chemical-weapons-syria-attack-report-2064754

>The Islamic State group was accused of using chemical weapons during an attack in Syria late Friday. ISIS fighters allegedly used a chemical agent in the battle near the besieged city of Aleppo, killing one person and wounding at least 10 others, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

Learn lessons from Division 30 debacle in Syria

http://www.stripes.com/learn-lessons-from-division-30-debacle-in-syria-1.364261

>America’s botched effort last month to support a Syrian moderate rebel group known as Division 30 was a chain of errors that recalls, in a small way, the 1961 Bay of Pigs fiasco.

>“We were surprised by the attack by Nusra, because we coordinated in advance with Nusra,” Abu Iskandar said. “Four months ago, Nusra showed great admiration for the training project. Nusra said … go get guns and come fight [the Islamic State group].”

And in case you're wondering why Assad still can't win in the face of such staggering incompetence

>And in case you're wondering why Assad still can't win in the face of such staggering incompetence

Even disregarding Arab cultural problems around warfare, it's simply a matter of numbers for Assad. He only has so many reliable troops, thats why Hezbollah jumping in was a huge deal, it gave him a force that could actually go on the offensive without the worry of switching sides.

Loyalist forces nearly aren't as unified as they appear to be, there's power struggles between state security and the army, and the Iranian intervention has intensified those.

Russian jets in Syrian skies

https://archive.is/xnXgs

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4696268,00.html

>Russian fighter pilots are expected to begin arriving in Syria in the coming days, and will fly their Russian air force fighter jets and attack helicopters against ISIS and rebel-aligned targets within the failing state.

>According to Western diplomats, a Russian expeditionary force has already arrived in Syria and set up camp in an Assad-controlled airbase. The base is said to be in area surrounding Damascus, and will serve, for all intents and purposes, as a Russian forward operating base.

>In the coming weeks thousands of Russian military personnel are set to touch down in Syria, including advisors, instructors, logistics personnel, technical personnel, members of the aerial protection division, and the pilots who will operate the aircraft.

Today I read a good comment on Zerohedge (that's rare lately)

>Yes, a new secure airfield. I believe Russia is helping Syria create a safe zone that is defensible against all attackers, and Syria will give up much land in order to be defensible. Russia will help secure the two ports, one of which is Russian naval base Tartus. Airfields must be put where they can't be attacked. Syria is looking to be smaller, a rump state with Assads supporters, christians, secular Arabs, even communists, anyone not wanting to be ISIS controlled is moving into Assad's safe zones. Russia is helping create this new, Syria.

from ZH user Jack Burton (feel I should give source)

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-09-09/russia-expands-military-presence-syria-despite-german-french-threats?page=1

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rump_state

Anyways, that seems like a likely outcome to me. But what comes after that?

d7ebe1 No.16515

>>16513

Its not something I really see the Syrians doing, but then again I don't know how dire the situation is in terms of manpower for them. Past that it depends on how long Russia sticks on to them for geopolitical reasons and how dedicated Israel/ZOG feel about ending his reign. Even if ISIS spends the next however many years getting shitbombed in that scenario, I bet they'd still magically be able to destroy every ancient temple and piece of precious human history "somehow", whilst the kike media makes pity commentary.

Personally, I really hope it doesn't come to that. The acceptance of national destruction, the endless relying on Russian interests to avoid being instantly ground into the dirt under Israeli boot, the failure to destroy the proxy soldiers with boots on the ground. None of this sounds like a good thing for Syria.

4ae058 No.16516

>>16515

I'll be honest and as a western news consumer the whole thing is very opaque. I really don't know what's going on over there, most of what nations are saying they are doing doesn't make a lot sense (for example, everybody is there to fight "isis" but isis just keeps on doing their thing)

But I think the rump state idea generally makes sense even if I know it's not the end of the greater story
