"Politics, news, culture, society - no shills allowed"
Society and culture are shaped by their people.
The people themselves are shaped by society and culture.
To change the one is to change the other.
I want to change for the better.
This thread is dedicated to personal improvement and all discussion relating to it.

what is better is relative and subjective
what are your goals?
0c0565 No.3241
Personal improvement is a broad topic and I'm unsure where to begin.
The first thing that comes to mind is the phrase 'mind body and soul' These three areas seem like a good starting place.
I've heard it said that even 30mins a day of walking can make a difference to your personal health. The same for study and relaxation.
3x30mins a day seems like a reasonable investment to make. At the very least we can all afford 3x10mins.
The only difficult part for me seems to be on deciding what to actually do, especially when if comes to mind. I've heard good things about stoicism. It seems like a practical philosophy that appears to have quite a few /pol/ advocates. I have decided to begin by reading the meditations by Marcus Aurelius this week.

>>3240>what are your goals?I have no particular goal besides being better at anything and everything than I am now.
One particular area is my state of mind. I perceive the society we live in as sick and decadent. This can get quite depressing. I cannot make others change for my sake but I can change myself.
Marcus Aurelius has these quotes attributed to him
"Look well into thyself; there is a source of strength
which will always spring up if thou wilt always look there."
"Our life is what our thoughts make it."
I think he's right and I've been trying to find a sense of calm for my thoughts. I've heard art and beautiful music can do that so I will be dedicating some of my day to those things.

>>3240from this I guess I should mention that learning about objectivity and subjectivity, and then learning about general psychology of consciousness and the subconscious can allow an understanding for what cognitive dissonance is and how widespread ignorance can become self perpetuating. Here's a link from websites that has provided the majority of my self improvemnt over the years.

Basically doublespeak is a new language that the totalitarian imperialists develop in the book 1984 to allow
also there's no nead to read the entire brave new world book, but huxley provides a brilliant foreword in an edition published after the second world war. you can read it here
"Only a large-scale popular movement toward decentralization and self-help can arrest the present tendency toward statism. At present there is no sign that such a movement will take place."
http://www.wealthandwant.com/auth/Huxley.htmlAlso this Ron Paul video from a MISES talk provides general awareness for what's going on and what can be and is being done, generally on the subject of independence from the government
I just found this video on Ron Paul talking about self reliance, though I can't figure out where it comes from since I would love more context.

>After that you can read up orwellian concepts, especialy doublespeak. Basically doublespeak is a new language that the totalitarian imperialists develop in the book 1984 to allowa barrier in possible thoughts, by greatly reducing the amount of words in the English language. This way, when people think about things, they will be incapable of criticizing many things because there are simply no words for them to use to allow intellectual understanding and thus criticism.
This is why it is very important to always be expanding your understanding of concepts in general.

>>3245I've read 1984 and Animal Farm back in high school so I have some familiarity with Orwellian concepts. I'll re-read them after I finish the meditations.
Huxley I've only heard of but never read.
>>3246>EquanimityThis is a word I should have learned about a long time ago. Funny how high school spends so much time teaching us almost nothing. I'm grateful that one of my teachers insisted on at least showing us the animated version of animal farm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0pys7boNro>>3248>This way, when people think about things, they will be incapable of criticizing many things because there are simply no words for them to use to allow intellectual understanding and thus criticism.I think the greater enemy is modern 'spin', which sounds an awful lot like an Orwellian phrase (The names of the ministries in 1984).
Parents often 'spin' the truth about their children. Spoiled kids are called 'outspoken' and 'willful'. They are called smart at the first sign of competence and are applauded for everything. This is called 'positive feedback'.
What happens when someone tells an ugly kid they are ugly or a dumb kid they are dumb. This is called negative feedback or more commonly "bullying".
Children learn at an early age that the only thing that matters is preserving people's feelings. They learn to either say something nice or keep their mouth shut. Is is any wonder then that we get people that worry about hurting the feelings of Muslims if we criticize them for raping 1400 girls.

>>3245I encourage everyone here to read Brave New World Revisited (by Huxley years later). It's about 100 easily read pages and is very dense with great information (It's about actual society as opposed to a fictional story).
Godspeed.

I'll start by explaining ways of improving yourself as a people person.
When you see people give the greeting of the day if you know them or have to talk to them such as clerks and such. Ask them how they're doing not to be nice but actually care how. If someone needs help go out of your way just to help and don't do it wanting stuff in return. Try to see everything you do as a learning opportunity.
Such as we raked this lawn and were taught a method to speed it up. Always try to see the good and search for something small and put it in your memory bank. It will build a photographic memory and the feel good you get fron helping someone else is like a natural high.
At first it tires you when doing these things but it grows on you. Everyone loves to see you and interact like you because it's like you have an aura. You do no wrong to anyone and they know you are always willing to do what you can to help others and they understand there's no underlying issue.
afcb43 No.3275
>>3243You yourself have the proper mindset on yourself and it will take you far. I too see our society as pretty stupid and sick. I don't think that is a bad thing because unfortunately our society is. Therefore I use my interactions with people to try and make their day better even if it is just talking to them and giving advice. I then will slowly drop reading material or documentaries to try to teach them how much fun it really is to improve yourself as a person. Once they learn that I slowly redpill them politically.
Fortunately I know how to read people 100% to know if they are being dishonest instantly the second they say it. I'm very good at reading and learning people's trends, I am friends with a lot of special forces and psyops and others like that so I'm very good with human interaction and I can lie withough giving off a single tail but I dislike lying.
Fortunately I am so good at lying because if they knew my true motives on redpilling they would resist
afcb43 No.3276
>>3269I appreciate it anon will add it to my list right away
afcb43 No.3277
Also study people. Learn how to watch without giving off tails. Learn your surroundings so you learn what gives off what, when people are watching you and be aware of your surroundings. You can learn a lot from people who are idiots in everything you believe to be important. They all have different backgrounds and different knowledge, take notes in your mind. Be aware of trends even ones you believe to be unimportant it may save your life one day and it builds your memory. Time yourself on stuff, example it takes me 4 minutes to walk from the store now. It used to be 7. I try to improve my time more but after a recent event which gave me a hemmorage in my skull I am unable to push my body without risking many things

One thing I really dislike is right outside my barracks is where they do a lot of the psyops and civil affairs assessment and selection. I hate seeing how they treat their soldiers even if it's just to get the best. Watching them do log pt makes me sick. Their barracks is right next to ours so i know almost their whole s&a training routine at least for what's done outside. They have a new group every 10 days

It's unfortunate the unit I'm in though. My mos isnt some special opertains one however it is very good. All of my leaderwhip has special opeerqtions backgrounds and they trained me in a lot of it so I have the training od it and it'd unfortunate being better than everyone in my unit by miles. Nice that I'm certified to train on SF equiptment so my unit NEEDS mr because I'm one of the 3 and the best by far out or the 3. Photographic memory is nice. Funny making my company cry
We did a batallion run which was 5 miles in 15 degree weather. When we were almost done I was like man let's do it again dead serious because it was so easy and my sf sergeant was like fuck yeah and everyone else in the battallion had fallen out for the most part and the ones who didn't werwere literally crying and about to. The ones who fell out and joined at the end were screaming wtf when we said it. They couldn't breathe because tdnperature so that's why they fell out. We were st front so we didn't know they did

Also I really suggest watching
Century of the self
I've only seen part 1 so far but it seems very informative on humans psychological crap
0c0565 No.3305
>>3300>Century of the selfI've seen this several years ago. It covers some of Freud's ideas and how Edward Bernays put them into practice. It also covers how media and business manipulate people for profit. It's an excellent introduction to the 'red pill' reality. I would definitely recommend it.

>>3305I can definitely get on board the Century of the Self bandwagon. Really, anything Adam Curtis has done will be worth watching, but Century of the Self should be mandatory viewing for all conscious people.
Also, Based fucking Bernini

I don't intend this thread to be my personal blog but I have some insights to share and I will do so this once. I hope it helps others.
Each day I am determined to do something other than nothing. It's a self-shaming tactic and it works well. For someone who's used to doing things only as the mood permits, it's been great at improving concentration and self-discipline.
I occurs to me that (some) right-wingers are in one way similar to lefties. The left seems to spend their time being offended and wallowing in ugliness and depravity. Is a person who spends his day worrying about news&jews much different?
The state of our society is something worth worrying about but, if that's all one thinks about it can easily get depressing and demoralizing. That has been happening to me. Sometimes I just get 'burned out'.
To offset this ugliness I have been focusing on 'soul', usually by listening to to classical music. These daily sessions last anywhere form 10-30mins. The first thing I noticed is that the mind is too busy and I can't stop thinking. I've used the time to reflect, usually on what I've read that day and make plans. Focusing on the music has also helped with concentration.
I will strongly recommend that anyone reading this takes an hour of the day if they can and devote them to their own mind, body and soul.

Everyone should be reading history. Learn about your forebears, it will make you a better person.
I've been struggling through Livy in the original Latin recently. His stories are sometimes more myth than history but they always teach moral lessons about bravery, courage, and loyalty. It feels amazing thinking about how long ago these men lived but how much their stories are still remembered and cherished today.

Dedicate 30mins everyday to exercise. This will help immensely in releasing stress and becoming more healthier in general.
While running/exercising listen to a podcast, a lecture on European history (not anti-white multicultural-washing leftist history), learn a European language (German, Spanish, Russian, whatever) or your favorite music.

>>3274>improving yourself means helping other peopleWrong. This is liberal thinking of the highest order.
People need to get this ridiculously liberal idea out of their minds that helping other people suddenly means that you're a 'good' or 'moral' person. This is actually what the liberal society WANTS you to act and feel. You have been guilted into feeling shame for not treating everyone you see positively, and the fact that you think you moral gratification for helping others or else you'll feel 'bad' is nonsense.
