So, in honour of our newfriends, I've started writing a book on the history of GETchan and I wanted to take a moment to ask who would be interested in buying a copy. I'd give them out, but I'm going to be a bit tight on cash soon due to my hard drive crash. As a sneak peek, I've included the preface below. Tell me what you think!
PREFACE
Due to the quickly approaching fourth anniversary of my first five GET, I’ve decided to celebrate with a little something extra this year. With all the newfriends that have been discovering GETchan without knowledge of her past endeavours and even some older posters that missed some of the earlier events, either pre-GET Threads, the GET Threads themselves, or early GETchan, I’ve decided that it’s time to put pen to paper and make an official archive of the events of the past four years. With Steven’s leave I am now the only remaining participant in the pre-GET threads that currently posts on GETchan. Even before his leave, I was the only GETter that remained, seeing as Steven was never actually one for repeating digits himself. It is definitely a shame to see him leave us after these four long years, but in the end it was his decision to make. His memory will forever live on in our hearts.
I will admit that it does make me feel a bit sad when I think of all the wonderful posters who have come and gone, especially those who posted for a long time and left. Whether they leave with a lengthy post or without a word at all, it never goes unnoticed. There are even those whose names I have forgotten, but whose memories will stick with me forever. If you have ever stopped posting on the GET Threads or GETchan, feel free to stop by once in a while. Remember that you always have a home with us. I would like to thank everyone who ever contributed to making the GET Threads and GETchan a success, but I would like to give a special thanks to those who have stuck with us one, two, and even three years, even if they haven’t been with us the whole four. It is your continued support that makes GETchan what it is today, and for that you have my most humble gratitude.
To mention a few users by name:
•4chan’s King of GETs – For starting the KoG craze.
•Ponychan’s First King of GETs – For inspiring me to delve into the world of GETs. Without him this whole crazy rollercoaster could never have started.
•Lunar Topaz – For his friendship and, at times, even rivalry with me during the GET Threads and for his assistance in maintaining PonyGET.
•Circuitfry – For practically building PonyGET, GETchan’s precursor, by himself.
•Arcs and Mithent – For their assistance in building GETchan.
•Orange Blaze – For hosting the GET Threads and pursuing a policy of solidarity after the split.
•Zeke Roa – For his continued friendship with GETchan and her people.
•Anonthony – For his constant support of GETchan’s territorial integrity.
•Iara – For serving as an inspiration for the entire chan.
•Deleted – For ensuring that everyone has a happy and comfortable stay on GETchan.
•Cross Breeze and Doc Lee – For their part in restoring friendly relations with GETchan.
•Our allies, both past and present – The users of Dubschan, /ref/, Lunachan, MLPchan, and /leftypol/.
•The mods and janitors of GETchan both past and present – Rainbow Crash, Lunar Topaz, Star Fall, Haackula, Pinkemon, Alicia, Stocking, MeinFlank, and Iara.
•And of course, my friend, the user who made this all possible, and the first recipient of the “Hero of GETchan” award, the man you all know as Steven Magnet.
I know that few of you, if any, will ever read this, but it has been an honour to be able to call you my friends over these many years. GETchan has been one of the greatest things to ever happen to me, and I will stick with it to the end. I look forward to seeing what the future brings.
