The thing is, there was never really a proper 'ending' planned for the Inferial storyarc. Inferials were intended to be a threat that cannot be escaped; after they had Twilight in their sight, it wasn't a matter of if, it was a matter of when she would be taken by them. You could say they are a form of cancer cells, but those of reality itself.
However I was weary about using existing characters, even though its probably easier. The project I had in mind was meant to tell the story of Elder Berry, the one who lived in isolation and eventually fell to the Inferials. It was to be a look many decades back, into the years of her youth, when she found out that there is more to the world than it seemed, and found her first great threat hidden beneath, in what was to be the Unseen. It is then that she first found out about the Night Watch, and it was the starting point of her life's journey, uncovering the hidden truths of that dead society's origins and the threats they were meant to defend the world from, most still subdued, but some patiently creeping into the world, unseen.
That story was meant to end with her being put in a sanatorium, after being driven near-insane by what she encountered. However, if I were to make later stories, she was to embrace the newfound revelations and would learn to use them in her journeys.
Of course, staying true to H.P.Lovecraft's narratives, we all know that in the end the knowledge brought her nothing but ruin, and when the Inferials were almost up to her, she only hoped that her research would not be found, not to doom another person to a life of terror.
