It completely baffles me as to why Glimmer was redeemed at the end of S5.
I thought the episode was great up until that moment.
She's literally a fucking high-level terrorist who completely destroyed and rewrote the flow of time, like… what, 10 times? In several iterations destroying entire kingdoms and once even causing what appeared to be an End-of-World scenario.
She should be arrested under charges of using highly illegal magic (against royal authority, no less) and endangering the fate of the world.
Throw her in the fucking dungeon. I want to see her pay for her sins.
I get that it has to be a happy ending because muh girl's cartoon, but isn't that just telling kids they can get away with enormously impactful follies as long as they just say "I'm sorry"?

Depends on how you do it. Dr Who has gotten away with it many times and its arguably one of the reasons the series is still alive due to its changing character dynamics.

Adding a new main character may work in this particular case, because she fills a gap that was created by Twilight's ascention. Add Starlight Glimmer, and shuffle Twilicorn off to her castle. Suddenly, the formula looks a hell of a lot like it did before with six friends who occasionally do work for a princess learning how to get along with one another in a big magical world.
