I built a 12 Gauge Shotgun using 2 pieces of Steel tubing for a total of $13. All I had to do was go to my local hardware store and buy 2 pieces of stock black pipe that fit a shell and over the barrel, buy a threaded end cap and a firing pin. I then took it to my local fabricator shop and they charged me $3 for the welding. I now have a working 12 gauge for myself and it works fine. It's been fired around 5 times now and it's holding up. If you can buy a REAL shotgun then I'd suggest that, but this design would work in a pinch if needed.

A couple times while I've been out there, I've had some crazy run-in encounters with transients and mischievous high-school kids. Since my camp spot is farther away than the others out there, I tend to get a lot of solo foot traffic by my spot.

The scariest times out there are at night, and it's not the other campers I have to worry about. its the transients that come and visit at all hours of the night. The main path is about 15ft away from my camp and it goes right past me.

Anyway one night I was at my friend Jeff's camp out there and we were smoking bud and telling stories when this convoy of 4x4 trucks -8 of them, drives by as usual. They usually like to drive at night and all around the creek to have fun but this time was different. All 8 of them stopped and parked by my camp about 50ft away. I told Jeff I had to go and walk back to my spot to make sure everything is okay.

When I got up to my entrance bush at my camp, some of the trucks turned their lights on full blast and they were pointed right at me. I froze for a split second then ran into my camp and hid. When they drove back by, They were shining flashlights into the bush my camp is in, looking for me as they drove past.

Cant say that didn't scare me, too close for comfort… I now have a Shotgun out there to keep me company :)

Update from this last post I made; -had to test fire the shotgun I made and It worked fine the first time. but the second shell I fired off blew up. The end cap I had welded and threaded on the firing tube part blew off the back of the tube and blasted a hole in my sweater. the wad and bird-shot propelled out the back end of the gun and snagged my sweater on its way out after the steel cap blew off. I got really lucky; didn't get injured and I still have my hands. I wont be trying that again lol. We took video of me firing it off. I'll post it if any of you are interested I guess.

live on for how long? A month? a year? ten years? After a point deferred expenses become impossible to ignore. Car maintenance, medical and dental bills, occasional moving expenses, and so forth are inevitable. And eventually I'll be too old to work, so there's retirement savings.

Ignoring long-term needs, $800 per month. Considering long-term needs, $1300 per month.

How to make a pallet garden.

The apartment complex I live in was going to let me make one of these. They are space efficient as fuck, and can hold a surprisingly large amount of plants. OC pics as season picks up

Pallet gardens are excellent alternatives to large gardens for growing smaller sized vegetables, herbs and ornamental flowers. Garden blogs and garden websites are noting pallet gardens as an up-and-coming trend. We decided to build a
pallet garden and found that a few modifications to the original designs really make this garden suitable to plant production. Schools with limited budgets and space can benefit from growing pallet gardens. Lumber costs can be expensive to
build raised beds, and many schools simply do not have the space to plant raised beds let alone traditional gardens. Below are the LSU AgCenter directions and pictures to construct and plant a pallet garden.

Materials Needed

1 pallet, a staple gun and staples, landscape fabric, soil and
seedlings.

Step 1. Find a pallet. Don’t spend money on a new one; visit a
local dumpster or speak with a grocery store manager. Pallets

 No.589

Step 4. Determine which side you want to be the front, then
flip over. Starting on one side of the pallet, staple the landscape fabric (double layered) to the sides of the pallet, working from one side across the back and onto the other side. You may also want to start stapling at the top of the pallet pulling the fabric taut as you move across and down. Make sure the bottom of the pallet is also covered by a double layer of landscape fabric.

Step 5. Lay the pallet again on the ground front side up.

Step 6. Fill the pallet with soil. Occasionally tip the pallet to a
45 degree angle and shake soil to the bottom. Be careful not
to let too much fall from the front slots.

Step 7. Place plants in all slots between wood, placing the plants tightly together.

Step 8. Fill the remaining empty spaces with soil.

I wouldn't do this, wood pallets are treated with arsenic and shit to keep them from rotting, there will be leeching. you could do similar with some flea market pots or other scrap wood.

pic 1 is nice for starting seeds while it's cold out. oh rain gutters work nice too.

>1 pair of $30 shoes.

>Most expensive shoes I've owned as an adult, All the other ones were <$20 and fell apart in a few months.

 No.992

>>982

This is why you have to splurge on shoes.

Same deal with headphones.

Buy shit, get shit (that falls apart 10x faster). It's not economically sound decision-making buying cheap shoes. You can get away with buying cheap jeans or cheap underwear, but not cheap shoes.

 No.998

>>992

This. You can get quality shoes when they are on sale quite cheaply and they'll last a long time. I have a pair of casual shoes (Dr Shoals) that cost me $30 on sale. They'll probably last at least 5-10 years easily. Walmart has a sale on them usually in the spring so try and get them then. Note, where I am, that prices for things are higher than they are in the US. They may even be cheaper at your local Walmart.

My previous pair of expensive shoes I had to get was with my Highschool uniform ran me $80. I still wear them for more formal things, but they've lasted me 11 years now.

I've easily spent hundreds on cheap running shoes that end up falling apart after 6 months. I think in total in the last decade that has run me at least $400, if not more, in the last 10 years. Same with Winter boots that end up being trash at the end of each winter season.

TL;DR >>992 and >>982 got it right.

Currently, I own 6 Pairs of Shoes (Casual 1, Casual 2, Running, Gym, Formal, old piece of junk shoes that are falling apart and only use when going to my dug out basement because it's gross and were free anyways), and one pair of boots.

Also >>691 Makes a good point. Thrift stores often have great deals on things like this.

 No.1001

for toasty dry feet, invest in a pair of muck boots. you can usually find some cheaper on amazon, but they are seriously worth every dime you spend. i have had one pair for five years now, and another for a few months, and i can't imagine going through winter without them ever again.

they usually need a little fixing up, nothing major, just stuff like removing the carpet and replacing it with tile, and replacing the fridge with a big boy fridge and stove for an electric griddle, and maybe getting a window unit if you live in a hot area ( cheaper than hiring someone to work on the antiquated specialty ac's they can have).

also make sure to find out how the septic system works, some of them cant be permanently hooked up to the septic line; you have to wait for them to empty and then flush them out with a special connector that lets you hook a water hose into the line.

You know those packets of noodles you get, where you boil the noodles with a sachet of flavouring powder and make a noodle soup? They're cheap as fuck.

And kinda gross. BUT you can make them tasty by doing this:

Boil the noodles in water like you normally would, but DON'T add the flavour sachet.

Mix the powder flavouring with a bit of oil in the bowl you plan to eat out of, until its like an oily paste. You don't need much oil.

Cook the noodles, and when they're done, drain off ALL the water. We're not having noodle soup.

Mix the dry cooked noodles in with the oily paste. Delicious as fuck

Hi /poverty/. I have a friend who recently graduated high school. He can't go to community college right now because he can't afford it. He got a job at Chic-fil-a, but he doesn't work for very long hours so he doesn't make too much money. His dad demands a monthly rent of somewhere between 300-400 dollars. He barely has any money leftover. He tried to convince his dad to let him put the money in a savings account for college or other important things instead, but his dad just said "A man provides."
The reason I bring this up is because I'm wondering if there is a "poor culture" within a significant amount of poor people that makes them want to prevent other poor people from achieving a better life or becoming successful?

i would hope that people who post here would see through the lies, but i doubt it. the other issue is these professions not really advertising themselevs, like, at all. its only been within the last years that ive seen the electricians union doing any kind of advertising.

but the fact of it is that skilled construction work ( ie pipefitters, millwrights, electricians, machinists, etc ) is damn hard but very satisfying and well paying work. i encourage anyone here looking for work to apply at local unions they can find, barring steelworkers and ironworkers, those niggers are crazy.

Sup /poverty/. So I'm basically getting disowned by my family because they make my life a miserable existence and I need a couple tips on essentials that I need to get.

I have an interview on Friday for full time fast food and have a place lined up that will cost around $550 (CAD) a month plus better internet if we decide to upgrade and I'd pay the difference on what they currently pay. The place has heating, water, hydro all inclusive and there's a shared fridge/freezer, washer (no dryer), and oven with a convection stove for making soup and shit.

What essentials aside from food will I need to live and how can I get them at a good price? I have clothes, shoes, winter stuff, sheets, laptop, a PS3, a small TV, a garbage bin and some other small stuff to take (or borrow) with me? Is thrift stores good for cheap clothes hangers and rack?
