I believe the reasoning for separating them is mainly because of colors bleeding into the white and the fact that some people use bleach on their white clothes. This has no bleach and none of my colored clothing release much dye so i do them all together.
I found all of the ingredients on the laundry aisle at wal-mart. The soap was under a buck and the other things were about four bucks for boxes about the size of a cereal box (idk how many ounces. Too lazy to go see). I grated some soapa nd used one part soap, two parts borax and two parts washing soda to make a dry laundry soap.
Apparently the liquid version which uses the same ingreditens plus some water goes much further but it takes longer to make so i made the dry soap. Google landry soap recipes and youll likely find some easily.
I hand washed my laundry… Ive only done that a few times. It turns out stiff when i do that because i dont have a wringer so i can never get all the soap out even with rinsing. However, it did get everything clean. I only wash towels and dish cloths and such this way because i dont like the stiffness after the fabric air dries. Im sure a dryer and probably a washer would totally clear this issue up.
