If you don't have a rice cooker…wtf are you doing?
- Cooks rice. obviously.
- steams vegetables, but i'm sure you knew that.
- cooks noodles
- cooks oatmeal
- Also bakes bread. Yeah, home-made bread:
http://insunee.blogspot.com/2011/11/no-knead-bread-in-rice-cooker-it-dont.html- makes yogurt:
http://insunee.blogspot.com/2011/10/making-homemade-yogurt-in-rice-cooker.html- warms things up as good as/better than a microwave (e.g. put pizza on the steamer rack, some water in the bowl, and you get warm pizza thats not all dried out)
- makes giant pancakes:
http://en.rocketnews24.com/2014/06/14/how-to-make-epic-pancakes-with-your-japanese-rice-cooker/to quote one of the links up there on why you would use a rice cooker instead of whatever else, "Efficiency experts have probably already picked up on one of the hidden benefits of this method: less stuff to wash." Plus I don't know about you guys but at times I have been without a stove, oven, microwave, etc.

I got an extremely basic one for $20, no locking lid or steaming tray or anything. Fuckin love it. Works for ramen too, but takes longer than the regular way.

It sucks a shitton of energy for no added value; i can do better food in pans on the fire, but great to see you manage to enjoy it

I am living with only a rice cooker and a toaster oven to make my food and you'd be absolutely amazed the bounty that can come from these three badboys. For 35 bucks I was able to get a fully functional kitchen in a no-stove living space.
Cooks everything I need and is so fucking easy to clean. Does chicken/assorted meats about 10 ways, every vegetable I could want, rice, cakes, breads, etc.
