Hi guys, nice board. Short story time.

>Be on train

>Blasting headset
>Guy walks by with a sign asking for money for bread
>Am thrown off by beggar on train while expecting cart-checker
>He doesnt ask me personally since im just 19
>He goes on through the door
>Regret not giving a few euros
>Get off train to transit
>See guy
>Didn't give him money again
>Bought expensive lunch item
>Ate it all on my own

I feel like shit again, its not like i couldn't have given the money to him.

So, got that off my chest.

I'm torn on what to do in those situations, personally. Finding a meal in an urban location is not the most difficult thing to do if there are trash cans around. And alot of the folks asking for money are feeding their addictions–which, it's up to you if you are for or against supporting someone in that way.

Since every single person asking for money is unique it's hard to have a generalized policy towards them. For that reason I am starting to bend more toward supporting food banks, since it's a more clear cut situation.

From my limited understanding, providing people with housing is really what gives them a leg up in society.

It's not enough to realize it, friend, though it's a start. Like this other anon said though, it's best not to give people money, but if you're in a good financial state yourself buy them some food. A pretzel, a coffee, a juice, a sandwhich - anything. Seriously, you can feed a man dinner with $4.50 and a 7-11.

I feel you OP, it's hard to know how much you can give.

I remember last winter when it was bitter cold in February, and I saw these homeless guys and fuck man, it was just so cold. So I bought them each a cup of coffee from a stand, gave them each a cigarette. And then because I'd set a precedent for that day, in my head, I kept buying a hot cup of coffee or tea for each homeless person I saw in the city that day - I'd spent well over £30 by the end of a short trip in town, which is actually quite a lot for me, I'm not minted myself.

The hardest thing for me is that I can't give to everyone - I have to be selective, be it first-come-first-serve, or otherwise. It feels shit.

I gave a homeless man an apple I had in my purse once and he threw it at me and asked what the fuck he was supposed to do with it. Was really jarring, because the people I see downtown just want money and not food or blankets. My ex's older brother bought a homeless man who used to sleep behind a grocery store near their place a camping grade sleeping bag. He found out that the guy sold it for money, bought a bunch of alcohol, and froze to death..

fuck the poor that's what. you on a poverty board for chrissakes. Most can barely afford to keep themselves alive.

I used to donate but man it'll never end. Just let them either die off or find their own way. They had their shot, I'm a young guy just starting out why should I carry their burdens, however small?

I figure, sometimes you have something to share, sometimes you don't. It's not wrong to keep something for yourself to improve your own life.

i've made it a habit to give my empty plastic bottles to homeless people that are browsing the trashcans in public for them so they can use the return money.

but i would never give money to anyone just like that. it's not my responsibility to feed them. i live in yurop and welfare should cover them, not random people taking the train.

giving food is cool, for this reason cash I never give - don't go beyond your means tho… some people are cunts (poor or rich) unfortunatly this was one of them… others can be very gratfull and will make your time and generocity into somthing quite rewarding for you, and them.

Some are homeless because they are usless, some because this world is so complex and beyond our control! - Think about all the things that made you who you are - and now think about how many of them were beyond your control or nothing to do with you!

Some people tho… eh!

Housing and computers.

Programming, art, music, anything becomes possible with computers, NOT MATTER WHAT.

Only a dumbfuck fails to use the most ADVANCED CONSUMER TECHNOLOGY EVVAAAARRRR to make some money.

Learn programming and you WILL make money, unless you're a fucking retard, in which case, you should just die because you're too stupid to even get a hard labor job anyways.

Okay, I know computer programming. I have not been to college, but I've written a game engine in my spare. How do I make money now that I know how to program?

i did this in China once. Our house separated the plastics because we came from some hippie university. Before I leave I try to find the recycling, but there is none in sight. Remembering some people carrying empty bottles around town. Headed toward campus gate and found an old chinese woman digging through a trash can for plastic bottles. I walk up to her and offer four bags of them. She initially refused, but after I kept insisting she took them. The security guard of the campus gave me a nod after he saw what I did.

My sister went on a class trip to Italy when she was like 14. Gave an old lady begger an orange (There were beggars carpeting the streets of Italy). The bitch waited till she walked away and pelted her in the back of the head with it.

>I still laugh when I think about my bleeding heart liberal sister getting juiced in the head by an old lady.
