Hey /poverty/ I created the /mlmhate/ board and someone was kind enough to share my here.

I have a quetion about cheap living.

So I'm going into a maritime program out in Seattle. The program costs enough 21,000 thousand total. I have about 70k in series ebonds. How do I live cheap for the year.

I am considering the following expenses.

>Rent (I've found ads on craigslist for places 800-1000 per month nearby, within walking distance of my vocational school)

>food
>utilities including high speed internet
>occasionally clothing, my shirts keep shrinking
>gym (I've seen gyms that cost)
>My mom is still willing to pay for my Iphone and I am still on her insurance.

Any other important costs and tips and tricks to cut back on cost of living there or necesarry things I need.

Thanks guys!

this is semi-true…OP you have to ask yourself what motivates you to do your best. i.e. don't skimp on things that help keep you sane and energetic. some people can sleep on the floor, some people need a bed.

for me, turning off my refrigerator saved some money on the electric bill, but i had an old and inefficient fridge. pretty much the only thing you miss out on without a fridge is milk and meat. You should also look into getting a ~$20 rice cooker, it takes alot of the effort out of cooking as you just throw the rice, noodles, veggies, whatever in there and leave it alone. IMO a microwave is not very important to have, neither is an oven. but as i said before, choose your expenses according to what will keep you in high spirits.

clothing-wise, look at thrift stores, and at discount stores that sell the "damaged" stuff. alot of it is actually just fine and you can get shirts for $3-$5. Goodwill seems to be raising their prices, I would scope for other thrift stores before them. But they do carry packages of new socks and other "high quality liquidation items" as they put it.

good food, heat, a decent 30-60 dollar gym, a computer (already have that just need the wireless card fixed but cable internet will do), and a place to stay with heat, and pants and shirts that fit, I have about 7 pairs of each.
