What's your plan?

After years of useless fucking around, I've realized I have to get a bachelor's degree. Currently working and saving up money so I can go to school and escape this cycle.

My plan is to win the lottery. I don't know how that's going to happen, since I don't buy lottery tickets, but that's the plan. I don't see any other way out from under my student debt.

Speaking of which, I assume you know that the keys to not regretting getting a college education are:

1) Get a degree in a useful field. That basically means engineering or something else that's going to get you a good job guaranteed right after graduation.
2) Do not take out loans. Whore out your asshole before taking loans.

Not OP.
I've been going on Pell for the time being, and I'll be able to get my Associates Degree just on that thanks to the Junior college here. My folks have been nudging me to take out loans to get my bachelor's degree, but I'm thinking of just taking a break and working for a while, at least once I've gotten my degree and can make enough to secure myself. I have housing for sure until then (inb4 housefire) and could definitely save up for a while, I just would hate to rack up some ungodly amount of debt before I can get my life on track. It seems inherently counterproductive.

In fact i got too hung up on having a useful major and ended up not going to school because i wasnt passionate about the one i chose. Now i am going for mediocre tier (studying to be an esl teacher) and i am much more interested in actually completing school. Feels good man.

There are free online courses that offer degree-level or even actual undergraduate degrees, there was a whole thread of them here >>>/freedu/2
If you guys are interested at all.

Good for you anon. Teaching is a most valuable career to enter into, in my opinion.

I'm going for an AAS degree. I don't have the money or time for anything more at the moment and frankly i've seen all the debt horror stories. No thanks. I'm also trying to get a few more certifications in my field. Not as good as a degree or exp but it's the next best thing.

I intend to use the WIA grant to get a certification or 3 so I can get a non-MCjob,then use that real job to get further education if I still need it.Fairly long term, but I usually take a long view of things.
Also I fucked myself deep and hard by trying to start with a shit school with no idea where to start on education.I now owe ~12k thanks to DeVry(yeah,I know…),and the only thing I learned was from a guy that completely ignored the school's lesson plan.Instead he also taught us about the WIA and not going to DeVry.

I don't know about policy in the states but here in Canada I've decided to go into a more security oriented background. Local law enforcement and the rcmp as well do not require any post secondary education and have extremely good benefits and wages. The only downsides are 12 hour days and your risking your life and dealing with death and poverty. It's also a botch to get recruited. Another idea I got recently was applying for the Canadian border services agency. The pay is less (60k) a year but still respectable. It's easier to get into and they do not require a post secondary education either. Downsides being you have to move anywhere in Canada.

Doing these careers I avoid all student loans and the time it takes to complete courses and I end up making 90k the through law enforcement and 60k through cbsa
