Anyway I don't have water reserves. No place to store anything where I live. But I do live nearby to a major river and between a bunch of sloughs, channels, and tributaries–so I would assume this means I'll be okay if the well shuts off for long.

Not if you live within a few hundred miles of a city or town. Not only will there be, at first, many refuges floating down the river on boats, rafts, whatever they can get there hands on. Also in the longer term those who remain organized in the city will use the river to dump every scrap of trash they produce.
