c00301 No.1826

Python, Perl, Lua or Guile for small-scale/glue scripting?

4735f8 No.1828

lua is love

lua is life

>>1826
Depends.

Batteries included? Guile. No? Lua.

Just remember to never make something bigger than 1000 loc without a real compiled language.

000000 No.1836

Should all be fine for small stuff. Use which has useful libraries for use.

364678 No.1841

>>1834
Thanks, gonna go with dat Guile.

Perl definitely. Perl does what you want it to do.

Good thing you warned OP that other languages behave randomly.

1000 is a little bit too much IMO,
more like 100.

Both of you are fucking idiots.

930f59 No.2105

Python has a library for everything so I use that. I also like the forced indentation since it makes it easier to read someone else's code.

Both of us is right, fagtron. Hand in your programmers license.

fa6d12 No.2121

In the situation you described
Guile > Lua > Perl > [power gap] > python

fa6d12 No.2125

>>2121
Actually, move the power gap to between perl and lua.

Perl and Python aren't really meant for this kind of thing.

bc7fbb No.2126

I don't see any point in ever using anythign but Lua or Javascript for scripting.

af0f23 No.2226

Perl is a poor man's Lisp/Scheme.

92d6bb No.2230

Python's great for all sorts of things, it's easy to write and easy to maintain.

33071d No.2635

I heard guile was a bit slow for an embeddable scheme
