Does /prog/ have opinions on .NET? I bet it does.

I'm an open source advocate, and I would be willing to cautiously take a look at it. Anyone use F#?

F# is pretty nice, basically Ocaml but part of .NET.

491461 No.805

C# is one of my favorite languages.

* Best OOP language around
* Has very nice functional features.
* LINQ makes data structure manipulation declarative and functional.
* Asynchronous support that allows code to be written in a synchronous style.
* Great libraries and vendor support
* Recently announced initiative will bring Visual Studio and .NET to all platforms.

What is not to like? I program in it for a living happy to talk more about it.
what's the best way to learn it?
What is someone remade java with even more corporate bullshit?

Oh hey, .NET rhymes with botnet. Who'da thunk it?

899769 No.831

I like C# and .NET is a part of what makes it nice. To me, it's what Java should have been. My only complaint is the microsoft bullshit, which you need to get used to anyway for a lot of freelance jobs. Thankfully, with them releasing the .NET core under a free license, it may have a chance of picking up on other systems.

Not him, but C# was my first language. I got started with this:
http://rbwhitaker.wikidot.com/c-sharp-tutorials

It's aimed towards beginners though, so you might prefer something more succinct like this:

Too expensive.

Java 8 supports lambdas in the form of parallel streams.

LINQ is inferior to Hibernate.

Why would you pay thousands of dollars to use something when there is something better for free?

Enjoy WPF noob.

>Implying LINQ and Hibernate are 1:1 equivalents in concept and execution
>Implying C# costs any money to use
>Implying that Java is better
>Implying that Java is free
>Implying anyone uses WPF
All these implications.

I don't know why you're comparing them. It doesn't really make sense.

You could compare Fluent NHibernate, which uses Linq. It's a lot less verbose than Hibernate (though ORM libraries in general seem to always be terrible), but if you really want, you can use NHibernate, which is a direct port of Hibernate.

Not him, but I think you can't write apps for Android and iOS for free

https://store.xamarin.com/
Seems pretty free to me, although a bit limited.

But that's Xamarin. Not C# itself. Somebody else could introduce it to the platform for free.

https://stackoverflow.com/a/7553662

This elaborates a bit on this point.
