I can't wait to ditch the clusterfuck that is X11. Looks like this is a a step in the right direction.

Wayland compositor (window manager)

https://github.com/Cloudef/loliwm

44203e No.957

Why are we moving towards mandatory compositing and client side decorations? Surely those two things alone are going to be a much bigger source of bloat than X11 ever was (and CSD a source of headaches too).

8e2032 No.958

>>957
Wayland is just a library, you implement the compositor yourself to do only what you need (and efficiently). In X11 you are stuck with the cluttered composition.

If you want to write a window manager, but don't want to write your own compositor library, use one of the existing ones such as wlc, swc, etc.

Wayland let's you choose what to do as a developer and let's users have a less bloated experience.

I've heard people complaining about this X11 bloat, but I've never seen it explained.
Personally I don't find using Xlib to be anything special.
It could always be better, but I don't know of one WM lib that allows me to just call a function to open a window, and another to poll for events, and let that be it.

can't wait for something like an equivalent of IceWM for Wayland to come up

also LXQt, but wouldn't they rename it to something like LWQt/LWDE (Lightweight Wayland Desktop Environment)?

sage for a thread that's essentially freetard consumerism

5bdbf7 No.2404

so am i going to be able to run MATE in wayland without systemd?

>project moved

Is this the work of SJWs or something?

fe58c2 No.2408

I am not using "loli window manager"

So, trying to bring this thread back into /prog/ territory… what do I need to know to write a Wayland WM from scratch (as in, no Weston base)?

a95d49 No.2412

It's still on github you dildo

>It's still on github you dildo

…where did I say it wasn't?

You know what "moved" means, right?

Maybe he wants other people to take his window manager more seriously?

It's called orbment now. I'm unwilling to use it because it is not called loliwm anymore.

Cloudef is obviously a pussy faggot.

52a2f9 No.2502

Is it better than i3 though?

311ad2 No.2561

Probably C and have a fundamental understanding of the wayland API, shouldn't be too hard

311ad2 No.2562

You have no idea what you're talking about

c5f72e No.2583

oh hey I made a thread about wayland on >>/tech/256371
