Do you believe that once achieved, liberation-enlightenment is a permanent state of existence?

Lately I've been entertaining the idea that the nature of liberation-enlightenment is impermanent like everything else in our existence. I like to think of it as a state achieved during a session, and with spiritual development you could possibly hold on to it for long periods of time, just like the enlightened beings of the past and present have, but eventually you would descend back into normal game-existence.

I expand on this thinking that committed people with high spiritual efficiency would be able to rest their mind in the ultimate reality at will, but as long as the physical body functions, return would be inevitable. It's worth adding that, at least in Buddhist teachings, there are many mentions of practicing monks who advance in meditation and explore different states of conciousness, have such powerful experiences that they start to believe that they have finally attained nirvana and freedom from cyclic existence, only to find that the movement from one state of being into another awaited them all along.

If the disciplined monk can make the mistake of believing that he has achieved something when he hasn't, it doesn't come as a surprise when so many of us who are on the path make the same mistake. I don't see the use of speculating the levels of enlightenment in ourselves or others. I see it as a distraction and something that is to be avoided.

It's quite the hot topic because there's so many thoughts and views about what it is what we're chasing or hoping to achieve by practicing and studying spirituality.

Another contemplation I have is that since the concept of enlightenment brings with it so many different associations in the minds of people, and because it is thought as a desirable state of being, would it not cause jealousy and disbelief along with other negative emotions in such a degree, that anyone who truly was enlightened, would always decide against proclaiming it to others, for the sake of others?

Anybody here eat shrooms and just get depressed as fuck at the inevitability of their lives, particularly in my case having to get a job at some point.

I mean fuck that shit, I'm here for a small amount of time in this universe, leave me alone so I can read books and play with wobbly windows on my desktop.

I've been pretty straightedge my whole life. But my overall outlook has recently changed so now I'm thinking about trying LSD. I've been quite interested it it for a while, from reading and hearing about it. However I haven't really done any other drugs in the past besides drinking. My friend advised me to try some other drug first such as weed to warm myself up,but I'm not really interested in doing that. What do you think? Would it be alright to try LSD after not trying other drugs first? Also, any tips for what a beginner should do while tripping?

The Inner Light and the Far-Right

Psychedelics make you into lefty, hippie type - everyone knows that. It's one of the few things that those who love or hate psychedelics agree on.

Right?

Have you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?

it's a tough pill to swallow! The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill, who presents and narrates the attached video.

Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.

Video related. Please leave your questions, comments, and concerns below about this radical new paradigm of thinking!f

Spiritual Tripping?

Is there any preparation I could take to help make it so that a trip is more spiritual/meaningful in nature than it might otherwise be? I'm mostly interested in tripping to see if it'll help my depression, since that's a thing that can happen, but it'd be nice to kill two birds with one stone.

I'm planning on trying LSD first if that makes a difference (since it's one of the main ones actually studied for depression) but I'm willing to try other things in the future if others think they'd work better.

Techniques to use during a psychedelic session

What techniques do you use for controlling the consciousness during a psychedelic session?

The basis of mine are different meditation-techniques. And I feel like it's a great place to start, a requirement even, for all who journey into other types of conciousness. Stopping movement, taking a relaxed position and concentrating on breathing is a good way to get started. The ultimate goal of this is to calm the mind entirely. No talking, no thinking, no doing and no moving. Usually this is all that is needed, as when the motivation becomes to stop everything, you gain huge insight into the moments of experiencing game-reality when you start participating and moving and doing again. Meditation has a huge impact on how things play out, and it has given me much.

Very useful all around; in lighter sessions with cannabis etc, where things might take a confusing turn when memory will not work quite the way it does in normal reality, and a must-have lifesaver during heavier sessions, where large doses are included.

I'm very interested to learn more. Especially if someone had tips on how to contemplate and discuss different ideas during a session in an intellectual manner, I would be very grateful to know some. The problems with this are many, one that I've noticed is that when time loses meaning and/or is experienced differently, it is very hard to keep track of the point of it all. Lots of times what keeps happening, is that because I do not perceive time, I go into overanalyzing, not knowing when to move on from one thing to the next.

Meditation is about transcending the boundary between yourself and the rest of the world

It's what acid does. Acid shows you that you are a human being living in the world and takes away the sense that you are separate from it. This is what meditation is for. To transcend the boundary between yourself and the world so that you are fully aware of the outside world, yourself in it, and the inner workings of your mind, and the fact that they are all part of one reality. Meditation shows you that the inner self and the outer self are the same self. This way you could have coherent and complete awareness of reality.
The mind is like a machine. When all the parts are in the correct places, the machine runs smoothly, but if the parts are out of place, if there are parts missing, or if there is a rock in the gears the machine will not work right.

Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Bill Hicks said that during one of his perfomances and I can relate so much that it's scaring me. I've had trouble putting my personal experiences into words, but this seems to be more or less it. Am crazy for thinking that what he's saying is really quite reasonable?

Epilepsy and LSD

Hey /psy/,

I have photosensitive epilepsy where certain spatial or temporal pattern of light cause me to feel strange and if the stimulation is strong enough I go into a seizure. I've tried searching a lot but it's hard to find solid information on it one way or the other. Is there a relationship between LSD and epilepsy?

Salvia

(I'll be putting a lot of words in quotation marks in this, mostly ones related to perception. This is meant to express that I'm trying to say something that there isn't a word for, and I'm just picking the closest word I can think of. I'll try to describe what I mean by some of them using footnotes.)

Having taken Salvia several times before, most recently the previous day, I figured I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I knew about inverse tolerance, but I guess I didn't really believe it could be very strong or last very long. I used basically the same amount I had the previous day and expected it to have a similar intensity.

I sat alone in my greenhouse, the bowl on the table in front of me. With headphones on, and Vicarious by Tool playing, I took a hit and held it for about ten seconds. After

releasing, I still wasn't feeling it, so I took another drag from the still-lit bowl. Within seconds it started, and only then did I fully remember what this horrific substance was like. I immediately exhaled, still hopeful that it might be a reasonably mild experience. I held on to that hope for the next second or so, while I could still understand concepts like "experience" and "hope".
