"Life lived in the absence of the psychedelic experience that primordial shamanism is based on is life trivialized, life denied, life enslaved to the ego." ― Terence McKenna

Is there any preparation I could take to help make it so that a trip is more spiritual/meaningful in nature than it might otherwise be? I'm mostly interested in tripping to see if it'll help my depression, since that's a thing that can happen, but it'd be nice to kill two birds with one stone.

I'm planning on trying LSD first if that makes a difference (since it's one of the main ones actually studied for depression) but I'm willing to try other things in the future if others think they'd work better.

It really helps to find other people to trip with so you can have guides and someone to fish you out in the event you start having a bad time.

This isn't something you do alone.

Clinical studies like this one that use psilocybin and LSD to study depression have a very simple protocol. Participants
are invited to come to a research room that has been setup to feel comfortable and they take a dose of the substance. A researcher sits with them for the duration of the experience (typically 4-6 hours) and may talk them through any anxiety that arises. But generally, the participants simply remain quiet and feel the experience, following where their thoughts and feelings take them.

This setup can be replicated at home or in another comfortable setting. The most essential elements are a comfortable space, plenty of time to stay in the experience, and someone you trust who can support you during the experience.

Thank you! I have a friend who'll be looking after me, so I'm not worried about that part. I just want to make sure I get the most out of it, I guess.

If that is your goal, ayahuasca can help you a hell of a lot more than LSD. It's vastly deeper, gets a lot more "work" done, has additional healing properties compared to LSD, and as a bonus, all the ingridients needed are legal to order and are cheap as hell and can be easily brewed at home. LSD is a good thing but the experience it provides and the positive benefits absolutely pale in comparison to ayahuasca.

I have some chacruna and rue laying around. Never done aya or DMT. I have a vague idea of a brewing method. Any added advice?
