I usually use Potassium Perchlorate and German Dark pyro Aluminum, either 60/40 or 70/30.

If you want a really cool bonus effect, sprinkle a little bit of finely ground iron oxide across the top of the flash once it's in a casing, but before it's sealed.

OP here, Keep in mind that this book does list some chlorate/sulfur mixes that are pretty damn sensitive, In my opinion no one should be dicking around with any kind of compositions that contain both chemicals, other than that the book is pretty alright. Also colored flashes seem pretty interesting as well, too bad this book doesn't list any
