Troopa with shades please.

Suddenly, you feel heavier. Looking down, you can see your body, floating amidst the darkness. You look just like that turtle creature!

Now, it's about time you woke up, right?

You snap awake, and find yourself in the middle of a great forest. It's morning, and you can see nothing but trees.

…so…I guess we should explore the area, right?

You explore, and find an angry-looking mushroom creature. It walks towards you aggressively.

…let's say hello to it.

It shrieks, and stops walking. It looks you over carefully.

Oh no, we've spooked him! Quickly, make small talk! Ask him for the time!

In confusion, he jumps at you! You have enough time to react, but what will you do?

I'm going to go to sleep now. See you guys tomorrow, probably.

The two of you collide in the air.

You land on your back. It might be difficult to get back on your feet, being a turtle…

You can't see the mushroom creature anymore, but you can hear it running away.

"Thank you for the help. I'm a little lost, would you mind telling me a bit more about where we are?"

"Well, right now we're in Varq Woodland. Close by is where I live, Harthwaite." She turns, motioning in a particular direction. "To the north is Lerwick, and west is Fortraare."

Let's ask what they can tell us about those places, in general.

"Varq is the 2nd largest major forest in Ofrana. Common fauna include goombas, koopas, swoopers, and the occasional monty mole. It is surrounded by 4 towns: Harthwaite to the south-east, Lerwick to the north-east, Hollyhead to the north-west, and Fortraare to the south-west.

Harthwaite is mostly home to toads. It's a nice place to live, with a kind atmosphere.

Lerwick is populated mainly by dayzees. I haven't been there many times, but the town certainly has a relaxing aura surrounding it. It's quite out of the way.

Hollyhead is inhabited almost entirely by monty moles. They like to dig for valuable ore under the nearby mountain. The townsfolk there aren't very social, generally.

Fortraare is home to the strong and rich. The people there can be quite rude! One day I'd like to buy a good badge from the badge shop there, but I just don't have the money.

Um…you know uh…across the sea…

"Wow, that's amazing! A traveler from across the ocean!

I'm heading back to my home in Harthwaite now. You can come with me, if you'd like."

Sure, let's tag along.

"Alright, let's go!"

The two of you walk towards town. After a few minutes, Melba stops.

"Do you hear that? There's something behind us."

You both turn, and manage to catch a glimpse of that creature from before. It's peeking out at you from behind a tree.

"Hmm… I've never seen a goomba behave like this before. It looks shy.

Come here, little one. We won't hurt you."

Surprisingly, the goomba walks towards you, slowly and carefully. It keeps its distance, but it looks like it will follow you for now.

"I think we've made a friend." Melba chuckles. "Let's keep going."

After some time, you arrive in Harthwaite. The town is covered in gigantic mushrooms with doors and windows attached. Those must be where the townsfolk live.

"My house is over here." Melba gestures, before pulling out a large key.

She unlocks the door to her mushroom-house and opens it. She holds the door open for you.

"Come on in."

You accept the invitation, and walk inside.

"You too, little guy."

Strangely, the goomba enters as well.

Melba's house is a total mess. There are books scattered and piled up all across the floor. A desk stands by the wall, covered in loose papers and writing utensils.

A large bookshelf holds rows upon rows of sorted books. Atop the shelf is a peculiar glass orb with a red star floating inside it.

"Oh, dear, this place is a mess…" she mumbles. "So, uh, what were you doing in that forest?"

It's where I like to go to just, y'know, get away from it all. Clear my head. Give me some time to think.

"I see. If you need any information, I'd be happy to help you out."

Great, thanks. So, uh, anything to do around here? What's there in the way of work, entertainment, education, y'know, things that might be fun do do or help me get more perspective on life? Also, is there a doctor or something around? I think I hurt my chest while being awesome earlier.

"In town, there's a post office, a bar, and of course an item shop. If you're hungry, you can check out Zoe's place.

I'm afraid we don't have much in terms of education here, and the nearest doctor is in Fortraare."

The item shop sounds fun. I like items. And objects. Would you accompany me there?

"Alright, I'll show you where it is!"

As you turn to leave, you notice that your goomba friend is asleep on a pile of books.

"We'll come back for him later."

The two of you walk to the item shop. It isn't very far. Right when you enter, the green mushroom-like shopkeep speaks, his voice warm and booming.

"Welcome, Melba and friend."

He extends a hand toward you. You grab his hand, shaking it firmly.

"My name's Farran. And yours?"

Hobgoblin Buttersworth, at your service. A pleasure to meet you. Tell me, what is is you sell here?

"Nice to meetcha, Hob. At this store I sell items, items, and more items. Take a look at the table to see what's for sale today."

He motions toward a table with a hand, drawing your eyes toward it. You see berries, potatoes, leaves, various mushrooms, eggs, some drinks, and other things.

"If you aren't satisfied with the selection, I've got more in the back."

You can see a locked door, leading to another room towards the back of the building.

"Are you lookin' for anything in particular?"
