def1d0 No.7135

You are roused from your daydream by the sound of people rising from their desks. It was pleasant napping in the warm sun. The final class of your Shinigami education is finally over. You had decent enough grades, but didn't really make any friends. It wasn't your fault, though, none of the others just seemed to get you. The only person you liked graduated last year, Abarai Renji. Not that Renji ever really noticed you. But you knew he would be here to collect the new recruits for his squad, so decided to go and see him

You head out to the corridor, careful to bring your faithful sword along with you. You won't be able to kill many Hollows without it, if you end up getting that sort of duty. If not, you may be stuck constantly training or worse, doing chores and maintainance. Through the crowd of soon-to-be graduates you see the long, spiky red hair and strange black tattoos that are Renji's trademark style. You push your way through the crowd to get close to him. He's standing there with a list, trying to sort out who his own people are.

>“Hey, Abarai-san!” you call out.

He looks around, and spots you waving at him.

>“Yo, it's you. How's things?”

>“Good, glad to be done with classes and getting out into a proper squad. I'm not sure which one I've been assigned to, though.”

>“Let me just check for you. Uh….”

Renji confesses he may have forgotten a few details about you. If you could answer some questions it would help him determine your assignment.

Firstly:

>Are you a boy or a girl?

Secondly:

>What is your name?

Thirdly:

>How do you prefer to defeat your opponents?

>Raw power

>Stealth

>Power tempered with skill

>Superior technology

>Actually, I hang back and heal the others

>Traditional arrogance

>Wisdom and experience

>Youthful vigour

>Demon magic

>Sake and womanising

>Kindness and loyalty

0aeed8 No.7139

1. You know what? Let's try being a chick.

2. I'm feeling Chie.

3. Superior technology.

You can see the spark in Renji's eyes as the memories come flowing back to him.

>”Ah, Chie-chan, of course. Let me just check…”

He looks at the list, running his finger across the columns to find your name. When he sees the number next to it his eyes widen in shock. After taking a moment to process what he is seeing, he sighs sadly, and raises his head.

>”I don't know who you pissed off, but you've been put in the 12th Squad with that weirdo Kurotsuchi Mayuri as captain. I'm sorry.”

Renji puts his hand on your shoulder, and you can tell that he truly means it. You know Mayuri's reputation is bad, although only through rumours. But those rumours get your heart racing, and you feel the sweat start to seep from your pores. Your hand begins to tremble, so you place it on the hilt of your sword. Feeling the weapon beneath you steadies your hand, but it's clear to everyone around that you are in a panic.

>“W-what should I do?” the words escape from your lips.

>“Report to Vice-Captain Nemu,” he says professionally, noting the attention this exchange is drawing. Then, in a whisper, “And don't let him probe you with anything.”

* * *

You shuffle your way to the 12th Squad's headquaters, attempting to drag the journey out for as long as possible. You try to recall everything you can remember about the squad and it's officers. The 12th Squad is one of the far less combat-focused squads, and is mostly based around the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. They usually only take the brightest students, although anyone with sense or morals tries to stay as far away from it as possible, going so far as to purposefully fail certain key exams. You hadn't felt the need to do that as your grades were nothing special. Apart from the brilliant, the 12th Squad only had use for one other type of member: test subjects. You recall some of the whispers thrown around the academy about the people who came out of the R&D labs. Disfigured, writhing in agony, missing limbs or mutated. The stories about the ones who didn't come out were even worse.

While your focus is on the terror is manifesting in your mind, your feet somehow find their way to the place you'd been dreading. The imposing white walls of the compound are fittingly foreboding. The towering white structures behind them host a plethora of equipment, the purpose and power of which are unknown to almost everyone in Soul Society except these elite few. You make your way through the doors, and prepare to accept your fate.

>Go straight to Vice-Captain Nemu and introduce yourself

>Go to the canteen, try to catch some rumours or get some advice about how to start out in the squad

>Go directly to the captain himself and introduce yourself

>Try to get into the research labs

I say we go to Vice-Captain Nemu. We gotta figure out why we were selected for this mess and if we're gonna end up as test subjects.

You wander about for a bit, overwhelmed by the sheer size of the compound, before finding some one who directs you to the vice-captain's office. You make your way through the door and down the hallway. You can't help but notice that the floor is very well polished. If you're lucky, maybe you'll get assigned to cleaning. It shows just how scared you are of this place, that being stuck with the eternal tedium of janitorial duties is preferable to anything else. Eventually, you find the room, and announce your presence. There is the sound of shuffling paper and a drawer being opened and closed before you are commanded to enter.

Sitting at the table is a young girl, probably about your own age. Black hair kept neatly tied up behind her, revealing a face of pretty features. Apart from her eyes. They're dark green and have a cavernous blankness to them as if there were no person behind them. She stands to greet you, revealing an awful lot of leg under her very short kimono. The armband clearly signals that she is the vice-captain of the squad. The table is very neatly ordered with piles of complete and incomplete paperwork perfectly aligned in relation to everything else.

> “Who are you? What do you want?” she says in a cold, unfamiliar tone. You bow deeply and respectfully, before blurting out.

> “Chie, Vice-Captain Nemu! Graduated today, assigned to your squad, told to report to you, ma'am!”

She tilts her head to the side slightly as she continues her vacant stare. It feels like she's undressing you with her eyes. Not in any kind of sexual way, more like a medical examination or mechanical diagnostic. Finally, she says,

> “Very well. You've been assigned to Room 3F. Report to Laboratory 4 at 0700 tomorrow for induction.”

> “Ye-yes, ma'am!”

You bow again. Another few moments pass in silence

> “Is there something else?” she asks. If she's annoyed, her tone doesn't show it.

> “I was just wondering. Why have I been selected for this squad? My grades weren't that good, and I've shown no interest in research before. And I've heard rumours about what happens here to people like me. Are they true?”

Her eyes meet yours again, but this time she seems to be looking through you, not at you.

> “Captain Kurotsuchi believes that you may have some potential either as a researcher or research subject, or both, as he does with everyone in the squad. As for the rumours, I cannot say. There are many. Some are true. Some are not. Now, please, I have work to do.”

She sits back down, picks up her brush and starts to fill out more forms.

>Try to bug her some more, get some specifics

>Go to the canteen and try to drum up some more information

>Take a look around the place, especially the labs

>Head straight to bed, you've got to be up early

Let's not get on her bad side. I suggest heading to the canteen for more information, and to potentially drink our fears away.

e642c9 No.7168

File: 1444137580009.jpg (110.86 KB, 1600x900, 16:9, robot.0.jpg)

You politely excuse yourself, not that Nemu seems to notice or care. After checking your phone, you realise you still have a few hours to kill, so may as well go and see how things are at the canteen. At best, you'll make some new friends and learn how to survive in this strange place, and at worst you'll be able to drink your apprehensions away. Walking around, you hear the sound of laughter coming from a brightly lit room, and figure that's probably it. You make your way in, and have a look around.

It's not quite what you expected. The bar is a more western style, with a large number of different drinks in glistening bottles of green, yellow and brown behind a large wooden counter. Standing behind it, however, it not a person, but some kind of machine, plugging bottles into itself and then pouring mixed drinks from its appendages. All you wanted was some hot sake.

You order something unknown from the bar menu, and the robot whirrs, then starts making a sound as though it is crushing ice, and then spurts out a greenish orange liquid into a Collins glass. It tastes bitter, with a hint of wheatgrass and a lot of alcohol. Looking around the room, you find a cheerier atmosphere than everywhere else in the compound, with plenty of laughter, a bit of singing, and a few couples with inappropriate displays of affection. There is a group of girls sitting in the corner, whispering to each other and giggling. Dominating the centre of the room are a number of very large people playing some kind of dice game. At the other end of the bar there are a group of mostly men who seem to be throwing their arms around each other and confessing their love for one another. They're probably drunk.

>Go chat to the girls, see what all the gossip is

>Try to get in on the dice game, see if you can finally get some luck today

>See if the happy men have anything to offer you

>Drink by yourself. You'll look sophisticated and cool.

>This place is lame, go somewhere else.

853788 No.7172

>>7168

Let's check out what those girls are discussing.

e642c9 No.7175

While moving over to the girls in the corner you pass the happy drunks. Their flailing arms and exaggerated gestures have covered the floor and filled the air with a mixture of green a purple cocktails. You narrowly avoid having something thick and purple spilt on you, and make your way around the side of the room, avoiding the cheering dice-players. As you get closer, you are able to make the girls out a bit better, and pause to observe them. The three directing the conversation seem to be the older looking girl with short green hair, a girl about your age with thick, red-rimmed glasses and brown hair pulled into a ponytail, and a tiny blonde girl who looked about 10 years off being allowed in a bar. From what you can hear, they're gossiping about Vice-Captain Nemu. The green-haired girl sees you eyeing them up, and waves to you.

> “Ah, like what you see? Wahaha~! Come over and join us!”

> “Yume-sama, should we really be talking to some one that isn't-”

> “Nonsense! She must be in the squad, so it's fine to talk with her. Come on!” she directs the last part to you, patting the cushion next to her.

You throw yourself down onto the cushion, glad to finally be off your feet. The other girls are all looking at you, but you're not sure why. If they were trying to criticize your fashion sense they were all out of luck, because you were wearing the same black kimino as everyone else.

> “Hi, I'm Chie. It's, ah, nice to meet you, I guess. I look forward to working with you in the future," comes your stifled, overly formal greeting.

The girls trade glances, and then burst out in laughter.

> “Oh, honey!” the boisterous Yume says in between her fits of chuckling, “we won't be working together, we're all in the science team, researching the Special Project-”

> “Yume-sama! You can't talk about-” the bespectacled girl burst in.

> “Relax, Mayuki-chan. It's the Special Project, not the Secret Project. Everyone knows it exists, it's the details that are classified. Anyway, Chie-chan, was it? We're all on the Special Project team, and we aren't due to have any more staff for years. You're probably on one of the testing teams.”

This sounds intriguing. For a project to be secret it must be powerful, or dangerous. Yume seems a little intoxicated, and is clearly the leader of the group. You might be able to get something out of her about it, but it may be better to talk about something else.

>Ask about the Special Project

>Ask about Nemu

>Ask about the testing teams

>Ask about them

>Ask about….

58ef11 No.7179

>>7175

Ask about the testing teams. I need to know if I'm somehow going to end up as some sort of mess on the ground.

a456e5 No.7183

> “Testing teams?” you ask, “What sort of things do they test? Are they dangerous?”

The brown-haired girl, Mayuki, looks at you derisively, but stays silent. Yume laughs, choking on the bubbly pink drink she was consuming, but recovers and says,

> “What do they test? Whatever we have! Wahaha~! As for how dangerous it is,” her smile fades, and she adopts a darker, more serious tone, “it depends on if the captain likes you or not.”

A few seconds pass, all of the girls in your group looking down at their drinks, hiding their eyes.

> “Only joking,” Yume continues, edges of her mouth pushing up her rosy cheeks, “He doesn't like anyone!”

The table bursts out in laughter, banging their glasses on the table. While it seems like a joke to them, it's leaving you pretty worried.

> “Seriously, though. What could I end up testing? There are lots of rumours about what goes on here, bad rumours.”

Mayuki coughs slightly to recover from her laughing fit, and pushes her glasses up on her nose, regaining her composure.

> “It depends on the projects that are being worked on. Captain Kurotsuchi is a strong proponent of the use of alternative weaponry, such as poisons, and often new recruits get tasked with testing them. Sometimes, though, they test out things that we've made to make life better, like that bartender. The guy who came here before you was set to testing the drinks it made. He was really enjoying it, until the bartender confused cola with motor oil. I don't think he was too happy about that. But we can't be sure, because he died.”

You drop your glass, spilling the viscous fluid all over the table, causing the others to back away in disgust.

> “Wahaha~! It's fixed now!” Yume laughs.

> “Does the captain not care about his people at all?” you ask, shocked by his apparent lack of safety measures.

> “Mmmmmm, not really. Not about you testers, anyway. He cares more about us scientists. But not much more! Wahaha~!”

Yume's slaps you on the back. Her attitude is starting to grate on you, making you almost glad that you're not likely to be working together. The other girls start chatting about how drunk she can get and begin telling stories of her antics, giving you time to think about what you want to do next. A quick glance about the room shows you that the happy drunks have all left, apart from one passed out on the bar counter, and the dice players appear to be packing up and counting their winnnings.

>Get some drinks for yourself and the table… if you dare!

>Ask about….

>Leave and go to bed

58ef11 No.7186

>>7183

We're basically screwed, it seems, so let's get wasted. Go get some drinks.

a456e5 No.7208

Fuck it, you decide. Chances are pretty good you're going to die tomorrow, so you may as well make sure you're praying for death in the morning. You get up, move to the bar and perch yourself next to the passed out drunk. The bartender buzzes over to you and you order 3 dozen drinks. A variety, of course. May as well try everything on the menu. The liquids spurt and splutter out of various orifices on the robots arms, filling 3 trays with glasses of differing shapes and sized. You carry the first try over to the group and place it on the table.

> “What's this?” Yume inquires

> “Just drink it,” you respond, as you select one of the smaller glasses and down it in one.

Yume leaps to her feet and throws her arms around your neck, pulling you in close. Now that she's standing, you can tell she's quite a bit taller than you. The other sign is that your face is almost entirely enveloped in her breasts. While the majority of the scent coming from her is alcohol, you can smell a hint of flowery perfume.

> “Chie-chan! Keep this up and we're going to be best friends forever! Wahaha~!

Mayuki looks unimpressed, but takes a glass along with everyone else at the table. After retrieving the other trays from the bar, the party launches into full swing. Laughing, crying, nudity. You try to get some more information, but between the girls' slurring and your failing memory, the only piece of advice you get is, “Don't let him probe you with anything.”

* * *

You feel consciousness clawing its way back into your skull, bringing the pain and nausea with it. Something is digging into your back. And your sides. Fighting to get your eyes open, you realise you are in a bush. You struggle to your feet, stopping multiple times on your way up to vomit out what seems like the entire contents of your chest cavity. Your phone, luckily still in your pocket, tells you the time is 0640. If you hurry, you can still make it to Lab 4 in time to meet whatever fate this insane-sounding captain has in store for you.

You move as fast as you can towards the lab complex, lighter now that you seem to have no insides left. You fall through the door at exactly 0700, supporting yourself against a bench and suppressing the urge to vomit again. The lab is a small room, some computers with numbers running up their screens lining the far wall and a well-lit dissection table in the centre. Focused on pulling something apart with metal instruments is a person wearing the white haori of a captain. His back is to you and it doesn't seem like he noticed your entrance.

> “Good morning, Captain Kurotsuchi!” you yell out, announcing your presence. It hurts your head.

> “What do you want?! I'm busy,” he replies without turning around.

> “I'm the new recruit, I was told to report here for assignment.”

> “There's a sack of items on that bench next to you that need testing. Find Hirokazu and go test them.”

You look on the surface of the table you're leaning on, and, sure enough, there's a lumpy sack sitting there.

>Take the sack and go find this Hirokazu

>Take the sack and go lie down for a while with a bucket

>Have a quick look in the sack now, you might have some questions

>Ask the captain….

edec2a No.7226

>>7208

Let's look right in that sack.

dca0c8 No.7232

>>7226

You open the sack right then, right there, and have a peek at the contents.

It contains:

-A letter addressed to Hirokazu

-A pair of strange black daggers

-6 bottles of liquid, 2 yellow, 2 red, 2 blue

-A hat/helmet

-An empty, hollow cylinder

-Half a dozen muffins

-A couple of small, round spheres that seem to be glowing

Nothing seems particularly important to test. You're also not quite sure how you are meant to use half of the objects. Your ability to suppress your nausea is reaching its end, and it seems like you will be adding your own vomit to the contents of the sack soon.

>Try something out

>Ask the captain about something

>Try to find this Hirokazu person (specify where)

>Go for a lie down

ef6c2c No.7237

>Try to find this Hirokazu person (specify where)

Ask people we meet in the hall for the location

cd84b9 No.7238

You quickly pack up the sack and depart on your quest to find Hirokazu. Out in the hallway, you start looking around for an unsuspecting victim to pester with your questions. It's pretty empty, but after a few minutes of staggering around clutching your queasy stomach with your free hand, you bump into Vice-Captain Nemu. She looks exactly the same as yesterday, with not a hair out of place and that same 1000 yard stare in her eyes. Hopefully if she is looking that far away she won't notice what an absolute state you are in.

> “Uh, Vice-Captain? Could you please tell me where to find someone called Hirokazu?”

> “Lab 1, first floor,” she bluntly replies without stopping.

The signage points you in the right direction, and you manage to get there, with only a short detour to the bathroom to spill your guts again. You peer through the window but can't see anyone as the lights are off and curtains are pulled. You can only see the outlines of large vats and expensive looking electrical equipment, so you knock quite loudly.

> “Just come the fuck in, don't make loud noises like that,” a pained voice comes from inside.

You enter, and in the other corner of the room you make out three figures. One seems to be hunched over the bench holding its head. Another is sitting perfectly straight-backed looking at a book or some notes. The third figure is tiny, and scurries away as you enter.

> “Uh, hi, I'm looking for a Hirokazu?”

> “That's me. What is it?” says the figure lying over the table.

> “I've been some stuff to test, and the captain told me to find you.”

With a groan, the figure waves you over with the slightest movement of its hand, obviously expecting you to give her something. While handing the letter to her, you notice the figure is a woman with short hair, and she seems to be wearing sunglasses even though there is barely any light in here.

> “Yume-san?”

> “Yeah?” she looks up, and you assume she squints through her glasses at your face, “Oh, good God, it's you.”

She passes the letter straight to the reading girl, who upon closer inspection is Mayuki. She opens the letter and starts to read it. She lets out a shrill screach of surprise. Yume's hands quickly move to cover her ears.

> “Mayu-chan, if you do that again I will grow my hair out, cut it off, turn half of it into a whip, half of it into a gag, and then… whatever, fuck it, what does the letter say?”

Mayuki explains that the letter is a transfer order. The three of them have been taken off the Special Project out of fears that their drunken behaviour will lead to a breach in security, and they've been reassigned to observe you testing the captain's most minor creations. The two of them seem pretty unhappy about it, and the third girl, whose name you can't remember, even though you have a vague recollection of talking to her last night, is nowhere to be seen.

>Try to reassure them

>Apologise, this may be your fault

>Ask about the little blonde girl

>Spill your load on the table, they might get excited.

>Something else (specify)

ef6c2c No.7239

Spill your load on the table, they might get excited

Well hopefully something in here can get your mind off your transfer

cd84b9 No.7240

The best tactic is probably to distract them from their misery by showing off your new toys. They're sciencey types so they'll probably enjoy it. You empty the sack onto the table and get to arranging the contents. The glowing spheres provide enough light to see what's on offer, even in the darkened room. You can see the other girl peeking out from the side of a chalkboard.

> “Oh? What's all this?” Makuki asks, picking up one of the daggers.

> “This is the stuff the captain gave us to test. Any idea what any of it is?”

Mayuki examines the daggers, while Yume brings the different bottles to her eye.

> “The bottles are some kind of potion. Or maybe poison.”

> “These daggers are made of a metal I'm not familiar with. They're exceptionally sharp and perfectly balanced.”

They spend a few minutes pouring over the other items, but only manage to come up with similarly vague descriptions for each of them. After they're done with the initial assessment, you ask the question you've been pondering since you got here.

> “So how do we test them?”

> “We use them on somebody,” Mayuki states.

> “Somebody like who?”

> “Who cares? Certainly not the captain. Wahaha~” Yume's laughter rings around the quiet room. She then puts her head on the table and moans in self-inflicted pain. “As long as we get some data, he'll cover for us. We could use them on ourselves, find some other people in Soul Society, or even go to the human world and test on them. Or some Hollows. But if one of those drinks turns out to be a hangover cure I'm definitely taking the other bottle.”

>Try something out on yourself

>Ask the girls if they'll try something out

>Find some other people in Soul Society

>Go to the human world, find some humans

>Go to the human world, find some Hollows

e19264 No.7242

Let's test them out on hollows. The alternatives are…fucked up to say the least.

>>7240

>Go to the human world, find some Hollows

lets try out the dagger on some scrub hollow, as for the muffins i propose we try one

d3e5cf No.7247

In your opinion it's pretty awful to go about testing products on unwilling strangers, and a pretty bad idea to use yourself. So you decide to go to the human world and find some unlucky Hollows to use as subjects. You inform the room of your intentions.

> “Ugh, if we have to.” Yume does not seem happy.

> “Yume-san, if we're going to get back on the Special Project we need to prove that we're trustworthy to the captain,” Mayuki says, and points to you, “And you're the one who's going to help us.”

Their drunkenness was your fault, in a way. But they'll be helping you, and you'll be helping them, so it works out. You remember the other girl hiding away, and want to ask about her. You can't remember her name, so decide to ask in a very casual way.

> “So, is it just you two coming with me?”

> “Nah, Eri-chan will be coming too. I bet you're happy about that, aren't you? Wahaha~!”

This sounds bad. What happened last night? She looks like a child, and you can't recall anything about her personality, other than that it took quite a few drinks before she was willing to speak in front of you. Could that mean….

Mayuki, in her professional fashion, interrupts your wandering thoughts.

> “I'll go send word to the gate guardians to let us through.”

* * *

You're in the human world, in a pretty unfamiliar location. It's really hot, quite dry, and the residents here keep calling each other “mate”. Do they really mate with that many people?

The trip here was short and quiet, with Yume being too distracted by her hangover to talk, Mayuki not liking you enough to talk, and the tiny girl, Eri, apparently, following at a discreet distance, but still in earshot. You didn't have a chance to ask what happened, although the desire to know is burning.

>Wander about for a bit, taking in the human world sights

>Find the local guardian and ask about local Hollow activity

>Use some Hollow bait

>Test one of the less suspicious items on yourself

>Talk with your unwilling companions about….

so is this going to be the norm for me, giving random objects and screwing around with them?

Each section of the human world has a guarding posted there from one of the squads. One of the combat squads, that is. Your squad, the 12th, the 2nd and the 4th are usually exempt from that duty because of their specialisations. Guardians like to have a good view of things, so it's best to look around for the tallest building. Luckily, the city you're in has a very large, pointy tower in the centre, and you can almost make out a figure wearing a black kimono balancing on one leg atop the spire. That's probably him.

Your feet follow your nose along the busy concrete footpaths of this strange city. The tall metal and glass buildings feel very foreign compared to Soul Society. The fashion sense of the people is strange, too. Everyone seems to be wearing shorts. Except one guy behind you, wearing a long black leather coat and a fedora. While walking, you figure you'll ask some questions of your new… friends isn't the right word. Colleagues, perhaps.

> “So is this going to be the norm for me? Getting random items and testing them out?”

Mayuki looks up from her notes that she is somehow reading while walking, and states,

> “Yes. Until you get reassigned, promoted or transferred to another squad.”

> “Or die! Wahaha~!”

Yume's mood seems to have picked up. The hangover is probably wearing off. Maybe you should have had a smoothie like she did. Oh well. Your stomach is starting to rumble, and the queasiness has mostly worn off. You pull the sack off your back and start rumaging through it to find the muffins. You take one from the packet and observe it closely. It looks like it might be flavoured with honey, and contains red spots that might be raspberries or strawberries. You open your mouth to take a bite, when Yume speaks up.

> “Are you really going to eat that? Right now? Without testing it on some one else first?”

> “Yeah, I guess,” you reply, “I'm hungry, and it's the only thing I have.”

> “Ok then. It's your funeral. Wahaha~!”

Mayuki flips to a new page in her notebook and pulls out a pen. Normally people in Soul Society write with brushes and ink, but taking notes while on the move must necessitate the use of a ballpoint.

> “Describe to me any and all changes that you feel occuring after ingesting the test item. If you're going to eat it we need the data,” she says.

You nod your head in agreement, and chomp down on the muffin. You were right about the honey, but the red bits are strange, not berry. Maybe not even organic. You chew away regardless. It doesn't taste bad, although it is a little dry. The other girls gather around and watch closely. Even Eri-chan approaches, bringing her cute little face into view. Was she always this adorable? Even though she looks so young you can't help but want to stroke her cheek. To place your lips on her smooth skin, planting kisses on her neck as you move your hand around her waist and pull her in close….

> “I feel….”

You pause. How are you meant to describe this to them? You look to Mayuki, scribbling vigorously in her notebook. Her hands are so nimble and delicate, and that cold attitude reminds you of a schoolteacher. Disciplining students is the role of a teacher, and you long to be spanked by her….

> “I think… I think these muffins have an aphrodisiac in them. A very strong one.”

> “Wahaha~!” Yume bursts out in laughter, “Which one of us are you fantasising over, then?”

Mayuki blushes, and Eri cowers behind Yume, while she stands there chuckling away, breasts bouncing with every laugh. You can't help but become lost in that hypnotic movement, and the desire to be held by her again like you were last night, enveloped by that bust, inhaling her sweet scent….

>Drop the muffin, and tell Yume….

>Drop the muffin, and tell Yume…

f71fa7 No.7262

You drop the muffin. Given the potency of the aphrodisiacs in just the bite you took, eating a whole muffin would be quite an effort. Yume stares at you intently throughout the whole process, still waiting for her question to be answered.

> “So,” she asks playfully, “Who were you thinking about?”

You look at the three gorgeous girls, apparently still under the influence of the muffin.

> “Well,” you say cautiously, “I guess I had thoughts about all of you. But I think I got rid of them quickly. The muffin just made me attracted to everyone around.

> “I see….” Mayuki scribbled notes in her book after you answered. Eri looked a little disappointed, but continued to observe and follow you.

It took a while for the muffin to wear off, but that gave you time to get to the tower. The only notable side effect was that you found the man in the trench coat and fedora extremely attravtive. He probably couldn't see you, but there's no harm in it, right?

As you approach the tower you see the guardian atop the spire. A tall, slim, but well built man, athletic but approachable. His long, black hair dangled well past his waist. Was he wearing shorts under his kimono?

>“Hey, mates. Good to see you,” he bows irreverantly, “So, what're you in for?”

> “We're here to test some items for Captain Kurotsuchi of the 12th Squad. I hope we won't be too much trouble for you?” Yume says.

The guardian is a bit offput. It doesn't seem like he gets many visitiors here, and getting a request from a busty woman like Yume-san must be a rare occurrence.

> “Of course. It's been pretty quiet around here, recently. I'm Jun, by the way,” he says, as he reaches his hand towards you. You take it, silently complimenting how soft and sweet-smelling it is.

After a chat with the local guardian, Jun-kun, about your plans, it's decided that you will use some Hollow Bait to lure one into the area. He's pretty keen on the idea, but there are still some details that need working out. Jun-kun says he's ready to fight anything. Mayuki informs you that their team is there to observe, not fight, and in any combat scenario will do nothing but defend themselves. The subject of which items you are going to test and what methods you are going to use to restrain a Hollow are also brough up. While a physical method is more reliable, it also takes a lot of time and can only be used once. Using Kidou is cheap and easy, but if your skills are limited then things can get difficult.

> “Collapse a building? That's a tall order, mate. But I know a place.”

Jun leads you to a part of town that seems pretty run down. Apart from the rats and the mould there appears to be no living things around. Although, you thought you caught a glimpse of another fedora a few streets back. They must be pretty popular. After finding a building of an appropriate size and positioning you set to work weakening it. Yume, Mayuki and Eri lounge about as best they canin the disgusting filth, but Jun lends a hand and soon the building can be brought down with a single blast of Kidou.

> “Right, so. I'm the local guardian, so it's my job to keep the area safe. I'm not here to interfere in your experiments. So I'm just going to make sure none of the Hollows escape. Everything that happens here is up to you guys, cool?”

You nod to Jun, and he disappears up to some vantage point.

> “We're here to observe the results. You're here to test.” Mayuki says.

You turn to look at her, and see that she's set up several machines on neighbouring rooftops. Did she have them with her before?

> “That means if you get attacked, you're on your own. Wahaha~!” Yume laughs.

It looks like this is a solo adventure. From the sack lying on the cracked concrete footpath you draw out the helmet and the daggers. With a dagger in your right hand and the Hollow bait in your left, you carefully place the helmet on your head. It's heavy, but you don't feel different in any way. Mayuki will probably want to hear this. You try to open your mouth to shout out to her observation post. You can't. Your lips won't move. Neither will your tongue. You try to pull the helmet off, but your hands refuse to obey your commands.

It seems like the helmet causes paralysis. It's a good thing you put this on before the fight, otherwise you would probably have died. A few minutes pass of absolute stillness. You try to focus your spirit energy to move it or blast if off, but to no avail. Eventually, the other girls realise what's going on, and Yume comes down to assist you.

> “Wahaha~! We thought you'd just frozen with fear!”

You drop the helmet near the other gear, and ready the dagger and Hollow bait. Your fingers clamp down on the bait, crushing it, sending the fine powder into the air. Eerie silence follows. Suddenly, the monstrous cries of Hollows can be heard tearing their way through reality to answer your summons. Fissures open, and 10 large Hollows stand before you, with an additional 2 floating above them. Their grotesque features and lifeless faces send chills across your skin. It's not your first time dealing with them, but it happens every time. And this is more than you bargained for. The girls are observing intently, but haven't even made a move for their weapons. You can't see Jun anywhere, but he's probably watching to take out any that stray from the pack.

running battle, try to keep them all in the center of the demolition zone while using the daggers on any that stray from the group

As long as you keep moving and keep them in under the building, you should be able to handle this. Instead of capturing a Hollow, you figure field testing the weapons should be fun.

The Hollows all begin to advance towards you at a slow, lumbering pace. One of the faster ones, resembling a praying mantis with a giant epliptical head, starts to get outside the demolition zone. You run up to meet it head on. It swings a sharp barbed arm at you, but you kick off with your feet and dodge to the left. Inside it's attack range, you pluge the dagger as deep as you can into it's gut. At least, that's what you intended to do.

The moment the tip of the weapon pierced the Hollow it let out a horrible shreik, and melted. The limbs lost their form and the body collapsed in on itself. The rapidly liquidising body of the Hollow was sucked into the dagger at the tip. The force of the intrusion into the dagger's form throws you back, but you manage to land on your feet a few metres back. The dagger feels warm in your hand. It's not the sweat or the adrenaline, it's definitely hotter than the other one.

One of the flying Hollows swoops down, griping your arm with it's talons, attempting to pull you into the air. Before it can take you very high, you jab it in the claw with the dagger you've already used. Again, the Hollow loses it's solidity and pours itself into the tip, dropping you back on the ground. The temperature has increased, but not to unbearable levels. It seems like destroying, or storing, or teleporting or whatever it is these things do to the Hollows causes them to heat up.

While you're lying there on the ground a smaller Hollow, one with about 2 dozen legs, races towards you. It leaps up and lands on your chest, attempting to slash at your throat with it's short pincers. With your left hand you struggle to hold it away from your body, and with the right you thrust the dagger at it. The Hollow vanishes from your chest into the tip of the weapon, causing the temperature to get so hot you can't hold it any more.

The remaining 9 Hollows are all outside the trap's range now. You've only got one dagger left, your sword, and the other items in the sack.

We can't give up on this thing! Try luring them back into the trap, prove our worth!

It's too dangerous to let the Hollows roam freely. You have to get them back into the trap. Looking to the right, you notice a small gap in the line. The perfect place for a charge. Throwing the sack over your shoulder you leap forward, screaming loudly to keep the attention of the monstrous creatures. Just as you reach the gap, one of the more agile ones has thrown itself into your path. There's no time for stopping. If you do, the others will all be on you. Kicking off with your feet, you dive and roll between the Hollow's legs. Before it can turn to face you, you thrust the unused dagger into it's back, using the force of the creature being sucked into the dagger to propell you closer to the other side of the building.

You keep running until you are clear of the trap, and see that all of the Hollows have followed you, and are walking back under the shadow of the building. All except one, the other flyer, who can't be seen anywhere. Damn, this isn't good. If any humans get killed by a Hollow you attracted it's your fault.

The sack falls from your hands and the panting begins. Sweat starts running down your forehead, stinging your eyes and blurring your vision. It's only just dawning upon you how tired you are. This is your first solo battle with Hollows. All of the training at the Academy had you working in teams. As you work hard to regain your breath and composure you notice the Hollows' attention being drawn away from you towards something on the ground. A shiny glass bottle containing a bright blue liquid. The one from the sack. It must have fallen out while you were diving under the Hollow. The smartest looking Hollow (not that that's saying much) picks it up between it's deep purple claws, examining it. Some Hollows retain memories from when they were alive, and this one may be contemplating drinking the bottle.

>Try to blast the bottle out of its hand with Kidou

>See what it does with it

Not knowing what's in the bottle, you decide it's best not to let the Hollow have it. You raise your hand, and point your fingers at the bottle, taking a moment to decide which kidou technique to use. Too much power, and the bottle will break, spilling its contents everywhere. Too little power and the bottle won't leave the effective area of the trap. Way of Destruction Number 4: White Lightning should do. Simple, quick, targetable and easy enough to adjust the power. Luckily, the Hollow is still just looking at it. Aiming for about 30% power, you let loose the kidou blast.

It connects between the bottle and the bottom of the Hollow's claw, knocking it up and spinning away. You think it's landed outside the trap, but don't have time to check. The rest of the Hollows are moving towards you, and your aching muscles are informing you that you don't have enough energy to run the gauntlet through them again. Especially since the black dagger is mostly used up. Swiftly spinning on the balls of your feet, you raise your palm to the key beam of the trap, and blast it.

>Hadou no Sanjuu Ichi: Shakkahou!

The incantation focuses your energy, and the blast incinerates the pillar. The ground trembles and the air is filled with falling debris. The building begins to topple. Glass rains down on the Hollows at they look up. If they had the capacity, they'd be feeling panic now. It shreds their skin, but that's not enough to stop them. A few seconds of awful, metallic screaming and earthquake-like rumbling later, the building falls on top of the monsters, destroying them all.

All except 2. “Damnit”, you think to yourself, “I waited too long.” They were outside the trap's area of effect. But, since it's only 2 left, you should be able to handle them, even in your exhausted state.

Binding them would be a lot of effort, and probably ineffective unless you exhausted yourself doing so. Best to just destroy them with your trusty zanpakto. Arms heavy from the long struggle, you manage to draw it, and turn to face the closest Hollow. It looks pretty small, but the sweat trickling into your eyes tells you you're not going to have an easy job. Best to call for some back-up. You know the girls have said the won't help, but Jun should be willing.

>”Jun! I need your help!” you scream, as the Hollow lunges towards you.

You block it's pincers, but it continues advancing. You try to raise your sword in time to block the next attack, but fail. The Hollow's talon looks as though it will tear into your face. The moment it pierces your skin, the Hollow cries out in pain. A blue bolt strikes it through the centre of its body, destroying it entirely. Across the rubble from the destroyed building you see a figure in a leather coat and fedora nod to you, pick up the vial you knocked from the other Hollow's hand, pocket it, and flee from the scene.

If you could, you would have worried about it. But the other Hollow was bearing down on you. Swinging your sword wildly, you manage to kock the Hollow off balance. Using all of your remaining energy, you slash at the Hollow. It made contact with the mask. You think. Your vision blurs as you fall to one knee. Within a few seconds, friendly-seeming energies seem to surround you. You can't really be sure; the exhaustion is taking its toll on you.

>Lash out at them

>Ask about the coated man

>Ask about Jun

>Collapse

>Attempt other (please specify)
