"I don't think I'll ever understand the teachings of the Brotherhood, Master. How can I truly know the salvation it offers if I haven't experienced the suffering of the outside?"
He nods, and looks out of the grime crusted window. He is silent for a long while.
"Nothing is fair in this life, Kappa. Nothing is fair. That must be your first lesson. The odds are always against you. Come with me."
Delvin stands and shuffles from the room. Before following him you grab your cloak. The temple is drafty, especially at night.
The two of you walk in silence down the damp, unlit corridors. The sounds of chants echo softly off the stone. The hallways ends abruptly, but Delvin reveals a trap door in the floor.
You descend the ladder first, and Delvin comes after. The hidden room is lit with many candles. Along one wall is a row of bookcases, absolutely filled. Another is dedicated to various weapons. He beckons to it.
"You have never fought before, Kappa. You must know how to fight if you truly want to survive outside of the Brotherhood's protection. Tell me which of these you would choose."
>I'd choose the spear and darts. I'm quick and agile enough. I could use them effectively for offense and defense.
>The sword, of course. Whatever was in my way, I'd cut it in half. (couples with short bow)
>The staff. It's simple. Non-threatening. It would be suitable for self-defense. (couples with short bow)
>I'd use the bow and dirk. They'd never see me to even know they were fighting.
